Ryan Maloney shows how to use a Null Object in After Effects to control multiple layers at once. Create a null via Layer > New > Null Object, parent your character parts to it with the pick-whip tool, then move the null to animate everything together.

What's a null object in After Effects? Let's say you have a character with a ton of body parts like this, and you want to move all of them at once. You go to Layer, New, Null Object. Select all of your body parts. See this little pick whip icon? You grab that and you drag it and drop it onto the null. You'll see this little red box, and then you just drag that thing around instead of dragging each body part around individually.
