Ryan Maloney shows the physical proofs for his new picture-book series "Without a Book," where characters are born missing something and try to fit in using other things. Amazon KDP requires picture books to be at least 72 pages, so he's padding with pattern pages. The print quality is about 80%, with some paper show-through.

This is a first look at my new book series called Without a Books. I uploaded these to KDP Amazon and they sent me some proofs. They print this not for resale label all over the book. So now I'm checking for quality spelling errors, making sure the print is acceptable. Print quality with this paper, I'm going to say 80%. I can sort of see through it and it's a little bit annoying. One of the pains of KDP printing a picture book, it needs to be 72 pages long. So you really need to stretch out your drawing, stretch out your story to fill out that many pages. See, I create these pattern pages on the inside for a few more. This is the Without a Book series. These are characters that are born without something, and they try to use other things to fit in and look the same as other things. There's a cloud, a witch, a dinosaur, a turtle, a book without a cover. Follow along for my self-publishing journey. Sorry, I did that snap thing.
