A short YouTube monologue by Ryan Deiss arguing that people reveal their true commitments through calendars and wallets, with time being the more limited and telling resource. The speaker uses parenting examples to show how saying 'I don't have time' communicates priorities, and recommends reframing choices to improve prioritization between work and family obligations.

Show me what's on your calendar and how you're spending your time. Show me where you're spending your money. I'll show you what matters to you. Humans show commitment in two ways. Our calendars and our wallets. The time is the more important thing than money because the time is the thing that's more limited. If you ask a good friend, hey, can we go hang out? And they go, oh, I don't have time. What they're really saying to you is, you're not as important as the other things I have going on. Now, that sounds really harsh, but that's life as a parent. When I had that realization, I realized anytime I said to my kids, hey, dad, can we go out and kick the ball around? Oh, I'm sorry, honey, I don't have time. What I'm actually saying is doing this thing with you isn't as important as what I have going on at work. When you really sit there and do business with that, you've got to ask yourself, do I want that to be true? And look, sometimes it is true. Sometimes there is something that is so critically important. This big thing happening in the business is more important because this is going to impact our family and it's going to allow us to keep doing that. So it is a judgment call. I'm not saying that you never do anything business wise. If you put it through that framing, it really helps with your prioritization.
