EP061: How I Got 1,100 Emails in 7 Days for FREE
26 Nov 2025 · 11 min
Podcast episode (host: Sachin Patel) describing how a short, aligned "challenge" (example: a five-pound weight-loss challenge) was used to engage a community and rapidly collect contact information and social proof. Patel reports concrete results (large email list growth, numerous surveys and testimonials), explains why short, focused challenges work (attention/compression, alignment with ascension model), and emphasizes service-first relationship-building as the primary aim. He offers high-level tactical guidance (keep challenges short, align to niche, optionally use ad spend, use bonus content, run a 5-day core with lead-in/out days) and frames the activity as both market research and trust-building.

What's up my friends? It's Satchin. I hope you're awesome. I trust that this video finds you in great health and happiness and looking forward to an amazing end to 2019 as well as an amazing start and trajectory in 2020. So if you read the caption in the description of this video, it probably interested you and I'm going to share with you how we collected 1100 emails, 900 weight loss surveys, 15 video testimonials, 30 written testimonials, 12 Facebook reviews and counting, and literally hundreds and hundreds of new friends. So I want to share this with you because it hopefully will help you in your practice in some way, shape or form and allow you to love on your community, love on the people that you serve, and also give them a chance to learn a little bit more about you and be of service to people. Because I always believe that we should be in service of others, especially in the service industry, especially in the functional medicine and lifestyle medicine industry. This is something that we start with service and it really continues from there. I believe that we should give people more value than what they pay us before they ever pay us anything. And so that's one. That's why I'm actually sharing this video with you. You know, I don't have to share this with you, but I want to share it with you because I want you to experience what I experienced this past couple of weeks, which was an amazing sense of gratitude coming my way, but also for my team and what our message can do for people. So I really had a newfound respect of what we're capable of and also a trust in humanity. Again, you know, there's a lot of people out there that really want to help themselves and you know, they're struggling in their own way and this is a way for us to help those people that are struggling or may have given up on themselves. And, you know, it gives us a chance to, you know, move people in the right Direction and of course, leave them a little bit better than how we found them. And so brought me great joy to be able to do this for my community and made a whole bunch of new friends along the way. And I want to give you a simple strategy on how you can do just that. So the way we did this was we actually had a challenge. We called it the five pound challenge. For you, it could be the blood sugar challenge. It could be, you know, had a client of mine, we were talking about having them do a routine challenge, like a bedtime routine challenge. For example, you could have a meal routine challenge. You know, getting people to, you know, choose, chew, chill, cherish their food. You know, there's lots of ways that you can, you know, challenge people on behaviors that move them in the right direction. So that's exactly what we did. Certainly you can. There's nothing stopping you from using that idea. But, you know, I would suggest that you come up with something that falls in alignment with your ascension model. So, you know, if you have a weight loss program, it makes sense to offer a weight loss challenge. If you've got a digestion program or that's what you're specializing in, then it makes sense to have a digestion challenge or something to that effect that's in alignment with your, you know, your corporate brand or your company brand or your avatar and niche that you're trying to help. So we did £5. £5 is very reasonable. It gets people moving in the right direction. And certainly somebody who wants to lose five pounds may want to lose a little bit more or may have other health challenges that our tips can help them with. So we really approach this from selling people what they want, which was something that we don't have to sell them, which was actually free, complimentary, selling them what they want, but then giving them what they actually need. So we know these people need to lose weight. But our message is that it's not by beating yourself up that you're going to lose this weight. It's by loving yourself that you're going to start losing this weight. So that's how we kind of switched the message up, and we had tons and tons of engagement. So I've never seen this level of engagement on any other piece of content that we've ever created. And so the reason I'm sharing this with you, as I said, is because I want you to be able to do this in your communities. I want you to be able to have a head start in your business in 2020. And this is a great time to do challenges when it comes to people's health because they're actually actively looking for a solution. So we're going to be running this challenge again. Certainly you're welcome to start conjuring up ideas for challenges that you want to host. We've got a blueprint. If you're in my mentorship group, this is something we share with you the exact blueprint that we used so you can run your challenges successfully. But I'm sharing this because I want you to start thinking about how you can challenge people in a way that allows you to showcase your skills, your talent, your knowledge in a very condensed amount of time. Our challenge was five days and we had five days leading up to it and then we had, you know, a few days after it. So totaled about, you know, about two weeks total. But it was a very concerted effort, very strategic effort. And you can see that we collected. How many emails did we collect? We've got video testimonials, we collected written testimonials, Facebook reviews, and all of this in a two week period of time. Now, even if your numbers were a tenth of what our numbers were, that's still great, okay? So don't be intimidated by these numbers. Be inspired by these numbers, because whatever we're capable of, you're just as capable of. The difference is, you know how much you're willing, how much you've already invested into your practice to get it where it's at, or your list, or how much you're willing to invest to grow it. So some of these things can happen organically. Some of these things you can put a little bit of money behind. And, you know, money loves speed and success loves speed. So if you're going to put some money behind this to get this out there into the world, let's say you come up with a challenge and you want to get a five day blood sugar challenge and you want to get it out into the world. Well, the fastest way to do that is to put some ad spend behind it so you can get really strategic behind this. What I love about the five day challenge, or however long you want your challenge to be shorter. Shorter is better because of people's attention spans. And you want to be able to create measurable results over a period of time. And I find that a short challenge can be very valuable to do that. You can always give bonus content if you want. So we did that. We did five days of bonus content. Just allowing people to enter the group and get a feel for what it is and invite their friends and Then we did five days of the actual challenge itself. So I'm not going to necessarily go into the deep strategy here with you, but I want to inspire you to use challenges in your practice in some way, shape or form. It doesn't have to be online. It could be internally challenge your team. Challenging people stretches them and grows them allows you to make a really concentrated effort to create a compression of time. What might take years or months or weeks to do with your social media efforts can happen within days. It can happen literally within moments of answering somebody's question that comes in. So there's lots of upside to this. And I really learned a lot about the consumer as well. I learned a little bit more about what they want, a lot more actually about what they want, what their challenges are. So it's also a great way to do market research. Hope you're finding this helpful. I did want to again share this with you so that your brains can start churning a little bit. My brain's been churning and it really started. It was all inspired by this five pound chunk of fat. So for me, when I saw this, I was like, wow, people think that's only £5. It's actually a lot. It represents so much more than just the weight or a number on a scale. It represents emotions, it represents anger for some people. For some people, it represents self sabotage. For some people represents confusion or it could represent trauma in their life. There's so many things that £5 represents and we wanted to show people that we can take a different approach to getting those five pounds off. It was amazing to see when people were losing the five pounds, how much the community rallied around them and supported them. They were really shocked actually by how engaged I was. I was actually shocked. I didn't realize how engaged I would get because the feedback was so awesome and the audience was so awesome and the. The people were just so grateful and loving and I just wanted to surround myself with more of that. And I want that for you too. So hope this helps. I hope this gives you some inspiration. If you're planning on doing a challenge, give me a little heart or a thumbs up, or if you care about sharing what that challenge is, then by all means write it down there. You might inspire a fellow colleague. And listen, guys, there's literally no competition, so I have no problem with any one of you taking the five pound challenge and doing it and I adding your own flavor to it because there's millions and millions of people that we need to help. So the thousand that we helped is that's like a drop in the ocean, right? It's nothing. We all need to be doing stuff like this so that we can all grow this movement together and help the millions and millions of people that need to be served. So get inspiration from other people, add your own twist, make it authentic to you, and find something that allows you to create a concentrated effort, short period of time, get a result for people and get them believing in you. It's not always about getting them to buy something. The first thing is, do they believe in you? Do they believe that you care? Do they believe that you understand them? Do they believe that you can help them and move them in the right direction at some point in the future? Maybe it's not now, but when they're ready to take action, do they believe in you, your methodology, your paradigm, your philosophy? Because you're making an investment in this relationship. Okay? It's not always about, what can I get out of this? It's not always about, okay, what can I sell to these people and what can I extract from them? It's not about that. It's about, how can I be of service, go in with that attitude, how can I love on people, how can I contribute in moving them and advancing them in the right direction? How can I build relationship capital and trust with these people so that when they are ready to make a decision, they're bought into your philosophy, they're bought into you being somebody who cares and somebody that can actually help them. And that in and of itself is going to help move the results in the right direction. You know, when somebody believes in you, when they believe in themselves, when they believe in the process which this challenge can help you showcase, then I guarantee you they get better so much faster. So, anyways, I could talk about this for hours. I love you guys. Have an amazing rest of your day. I'm off to a family party, so happy holidays for all of you that are hopefully celebrating this time of year in some way, shape or form. Have an amazing rest of your weekend. Bye for now.
