Tiago Forte and the speaker discuss how manufacturing concepts like Theory of Constraints, developed by Eliyahu Goldratt, can help creators optimize their work. Modern software practices like Scrum sprints and epics actually come from manufacturing principles focused on maximizing throughput.

So what can creators learn from those fields and bring into their knowledge map?
Within manufacturing, there's different methodologies, Six Sigma and Lean and just-in-time and all these things. But there is a particular kind of niche that is the most insightful, that is exactly what you're talking about. It's called the theory of constraints. You know about the theory? I don't know. There was this guy, Eliyahu Goldratt. He was an Israeli physicist. So the way the software is developed, like in sprints and like epics and different things, the whole philosophy of modern software development, if you go back, the true origins of it were in manufacturing. Like the word Scrum, right? We think that's a modern tech word that comes from manufacturing. And specifically, the Theory of Constraints was extremely influential in, in the creation of that. So basically, it's all about throughput.
