Sam Thomason demonstrates the Takamaz XT6, a hybrid CNC gantry lathe that works as both a parts-catcher and bar-fed machine. The new parts catcher eliminates unloading steps, saving seconds per cycle, while hand-scraped reverse slides provide rigidity for heavy turning in a compact footprint.

Everybody, this is Sam the robot man and I am here with the brand new Takamaz XT6. Now you might say I've seen tons of XT6s and XT1 hundreds. What are you talking about? Well, have a look at this baby here. It has a parts catcher and you're probably thinking, well wait, Sam, I've seen plenty of parts catchers on plenty of machines out there. The magic of this particular machine is that this parts catcher allows us to eliminate the unloading process that we usually need to spend time on in the loading and unloading process. So you're familiar with our gantry machines. We can take a look over here. We've still got the inpeed conveyor, so the parts are going to roll in on this in feed conveyor. If it's an OP 1020, this hand here can actually rotate. So we can do an OP 1020 from here. Where the difference lies is instead of dropping those parts off on that outfeed conveyor there, we're dropping it off to the parts capture instead. And that can happen much faster because we don't need that arm to rotate, clamp come out and then drop it off as we usually would. So we save a few seconds right there. And if you're chasing seconds, that can mean everything in the world. Now one of the other brilliant features that we realized after we sort of designed this spec was hey, this is like a barfed machine. I mean we've got a parts catcher, we've got this outfeed conveyor here. We can run this as a bar machine as well. So not only do you get one of the world's fastest gantry loaded compact machines, and boy, ain't it compact. Look how compact this machine is. We can actually bar feed, so you could have a bar feeder attached out the back here, run the parts through bar feed, cut off parts catcher drops it off in the same way. Now, like all of the Takama's XT series, this is a heavy hand scrape box. Way you may have seen me in the factory with the hand scraping people earlier, the reverse slides of these are all hand scraped. So this is hard as a rock, ready to do hard turning and all sorts of heavy hogging. Fantastic machine from Takamaz now, a lot faster and a lot more versatile. I'll see you all later.
