In a live Zoom session, Nashville‑based singer‑songwriter Sarah Spencer introduces day 4 of her recurring "Five in Five" speed‑songwriting challenge, where participants write a full song each day for five days based on a prompt. She performs her original song "Candlelight," shares the lyrics, and reflects on having written the track in about 45 minutes—a testament to the rapid‑writing momentum the challenge fosters. Sarah emphasizes the value of daily songwriting for creative flow, self‑expression, and community support, inviting viewers to join the Facebook group that hosts the challenge, which welcomes songwriters of any skill level. She then announces the upcoming reopening of her paid "Song Club" membership (limited holiday registration from tomorrow until Dec 8), describing its year‑long structure: weekly songwriting prompts, a space for sharing works‑in‑progress and releases, and Thursday live write‑ins (12‑1 PM CT) that function as a virtual study group. She provides the registration link (mikesongclub.com) and notes that participants of the Five‑in‑Five will receive email updates about the club. The video concludes with a call to action to join both the challenge and the Song Club.

Okay, I think we're going live. I never really know because there's a loading bar that says we're loading, but Zoom says, "Hi, you're live," so I'm just gonna assume that we're live right now. Oh no, I need to mute myself. I never really know. Okay, cool. Hi, my name is Sarah Spencer. I am a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, and today is day 4 of the Five in Five Song Challenge. So what is the Five in Five? It is a speed songwriting challenge that I host every couple of months, and for 5 days we write a full song every day based on a songwriting prompt that I post in our group. So today is day 4, um, and I finished day 4's song, so I wanted to share it with you. And let me know what you think. Drop a comment below if you like it, if you hate it. I don't know, don't tell me that, that's just rude. But I do hope that you enjoy it. So this is called Candlelight.
Evening like a blanket, soft as flannel sleep. Laughing like we're teenagers. Dizzy from your lips. I don't wanna go home. No, I don't wanna leave it. Maybe we let candlelight decide if we burn down or relight. Somehow I'm still wrapped up, hanging on your words. How can you still do that, baby, after all these years? No, I don't want no trouble. No, I don't want to make the same mistakes that I made back then. Let's say candlelight. Decide if we burn down or relight. 'Cause I don't wanna feel like I missed my best chance at the best thing in my life.
Couldn't quite get it. That is Candlelight. Thank you guys so much for listening. The song, I can't believe this is total humble brag, but I'm still like in shock. I wrote the song in like 45 minutes and yesterday, same. So that's what happens when you write every day. I've been writing a song every single day. I wrote 5 this week so far because I had another write earlier in the day. So crazy. That's the power of the 5 in 5s. That's really the power of sitting down and writing music and allowing yourself to do it, to go for it, to dive in, to not censor yourself, to allow yourself to fall back in love with what you have to say. That's been a journey for me. I'm right on it with you. I come in and out of it. So if that's something that sounds like a journey that you want to take, join the Five in Five. It's so much fun. We do this every couple of months. We write 5 songs in 5 days. And the group is great. It all happens inside of a Facebook group. And I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to be like my challenge group. So come on down. Come on, join. You don't have to be like advanced professional songwriter. You can be a songwriter at any level, any level of experience. So yeah, and also I'm excited to announce that after this session of the Five in Five, like tomorrow, Song Club is reopening. I'm reopening Song Club for a limited holiday registration event. So it will be open starting tomorrow and we close doors again on Wednesday the 8th. So what is Song Club? Song Club is like the follow-up to the Five in Five. So after we have like this amazing productive week of structure and accountability and inspiration and songs and comments and feedback and friendship, and then it's over, the challenge ends, then what? Well, that's where Song Club is a wonderful like follow-up to the Five in Five. We keep the accountability, the friendship, the structure going all year long. It's a paid songwriting membership community. So how do we do it? We have weekly prompts in the club or in Song Club every week. So every Monday, you can start your week with fresh inspiration with a brand new songwriting prompt. We have places for you to post songs in progress and get feedback on those songs. We have a spot where you can post your new releases. So if you have a presale or something coming up and you want Song Club to rally behind you for that, post it, share that. We want to help you out. Um, and we also have weekly live write-ins. So live write-ins are where I stream my songwriting session and we all come together in the chat and work on our own material. So it's kind of like study group where we're all coming together and working independently on our own songs at the same time every week. It's really great. So that's what I did earlier today. These live write-ins happen every Thursday from 12 to 1 PM Central Time. So I worked on a Christmas track earlier today, and then I had this challenge today, so I wrote 2 songs, and that's like bananas. I'm already at 5 songs deep, and we're only on Thursday of the week. So live write-ins are a really, really great way to stay accountable to yourself and have some structure to your writing routine, and to also not feel like you're writing into the void because you're in a group with other friends who are there writing at the same time. So I love it. They are something I look forward to every week. And I hope to see you there. So if that sounds like something you want to sign up for, Song Club is opening tomorrow. I can't freaking believe it. Go to mikesongclub.com and get on the waitlist there. And if you sign up for the 5 in 5 Song Challenge, you'll hear about it too. I'll be emailing you with the link so you can sign up if you'd like.
