Original Song "Thread" - 5 in 5 Song Challenge Day 1

Sarah Spencer wrote "Thread" in one day as part of her Five in Five Song Challenge, a free five-day songwriting event with daily prompts. The song draws inspiration from Taylor Swift's "Willow" and "Blank Space," and Spencer kept the writing loose, skipping the bridge and improvising sections.

Sarah Spencer, what's up? Welcome to my channel. I am a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, and I'm also the host of the Five in Five Song Challenge. The Five in Five is a 5-day speed songwriting challenge where we write a new song every day for 5 days based on the songwriting prompt. So I just finished up my song for today's challenge, today's prompt. If you want to join us, check out songfancy.com/5in5. It's a free songwriting challenge. You're welcome to join. I'd love to see you there. I'd love to see what you come up with. In fact, you don't even have to ever have written a song before. If you just kind of want to write a song, want to try it out, join the challenge. It's a great place to dip your toes into songwriting. That being said, it is a kick in the ass because it's a speed writing challenge. So we're all here to kick our own butts. And I definitely did that today. I'm actually surprised that this song came out as good as it did. I did not expect that. I really— I mean, I hate to pat myself on the back here publicly, uh, humble brag, but I really like it. Um, and I guess that's all that matters is I sat down and I wrote a song today and I like it. So this is called Thread, and this is the first time I'm playing it through, so good luck me. Um, and it's inspired a bit by like Taylor Swift Willow type of vibes with a little bit of blank space craziness thrown in. So here is Thread.
Maple pancakes, get some more light on your face, waking up just to watch Middle Earth. Amber glass vase on the mantle. You picked me a bouquet pine needles. Yeah, I needed you all my life. Whoa, we met in a fairy tale, feel like pennies down a wishing well. Time ran out and now it hurts like hell. Call me crazy, call me out my mind, but I love the way it feels each time I pull on the thread of you and I'll admit I'll freeze. Stinging rainstorm, homie, baby, it's cold and you're warm. I just want to feel the fucking This is like— oh, I know not what I do.
I just say things just to hurt you, but you already knew that, right?
Oh, we met in a fairy tale. I felt like Penny's down wishing well. Time ran out, now it hurts. I can't move. Call me crazy, call me out my mind, but I love the way it feels each time I pull on the thread of you and I, I'll admit, I'll be with you so long. Oh, we met in a fairy tale, felt like pennies down a wishing well. Time ran out, now it hurts like hell. Oh, call me crazy, call me out of my mind, but I love the way it feels each time I pull on the thread of you and I. A la in me, a la in me, aho, please. Kind of ad-libbed the part there.
There's no bridge in that song, but I felt like it needed something, so We improvised. Anyway, that's day 1 for me of the Five in Five Song Challenge. Thank you for listening. Once again, if you'd like to join and come write some songs with us, we have a really good time. It's a lot of fun. Like, come on down, come on down, come join us. We are at songfancy.com/fiveinfive. Also, something really special is happening at the end of this challenge. I'm actually opening up registration for my paid membership community called Song Club. And Song Club is really similar to the Five in Five, except that we keep up the momentum all year long instead of just one week every couple of months, like the Five in Five. Song Club is always going. We have a weekly song prompt ready for you inside the Five in Five— or inside Song Club. Oh my gosh. And we also do weekly live write-ins, which are a lot— kind of not really like this at all. I just streamed my writing session, but Our live write-ins are a weekly livestream where I stream my songwriting session, and we all meet up, we hang out in the chat, and everybody gets to work on their own song. So it's basically like study group, and it's a great way to hold yourself accountable to your own songwriting practice, get really good, keep writing, stay flexible, stay in practice, and build up your catalog. If you also are somebody who's feeling quite a bit lonely in the middle of these times, this is a really great way to stay connected with songwriter friends and to feel less like you're writing in a vacuum. So we are opening up registration for Song Club at the end of this week. So if you want to hear about it, make sure you don't forget, sign up for the waitlist at mysongclub.com. It's $22 a month and you get a vibrant community of songwriters, a place to share your music, different ways to get inspired, and some really cool events that are coming up next year. So in the meantime, Thanks for listening. That was Thread. Tell me if you liked it or not. Drop a comment, let me know. Follow, subscribe, hit the bell, all of that stuff. And I will see you later. Hopefully see you inside the challenge group.
