Sarah Yovino explains the VI Peel, a chemical peel with vitamin C. Peeling happens around days 4-5, so schedule it mid-week to peel over the weekend. Skip exercise and heat for 48 hours after to avoid blistering.

So, Dr. Sarah, I'm thinking about getting a VI Peel, but I'm really concerned about the peeling. So what is the downtime for the VI Peel?
Well, the peeling process really happens on day 4 and 5. So the downtime is like this: you come in, wash your face, we place the peel on you. After 4 hours, the peel neutralizes, so you're going to wash it all off. So that night you're going to look the same, the next day you'll look the same. And on the 3rd day, maybe in the evening, you might start to peel a little bit in high movement areas of the face, such as around the mouth. And then you really peel all day 4 and all day 5. So it's really those 2 days. So I always recommend if you work Monday through Friday, it's nice to get the peel on Wednesday. That way you peel on Saturday and Sunday. And if you want to not peel on the weekend, then come in on a Monday and you can peel Thursday and Friday.
Awesome, thank you. Uh, can I work out after it?
No, for the first 48 hours until you start to peel, you are not going to work out. You don't want to trap heat underneath the peel as this can cause blistering. So you're not going to work out, take a steamy hot shower, get in a jacuzzi, or do anything where you're going to be like in the sun or exposed to any kind of excessive heat. So working out, no, not for 48 hours.
Okay. Okay. What about makeup?
Makeup after you've washed the first set of, you know, the first peel off after 4 hours. I mean, typically people don't wanna wear makeup in the initial phases or even throughout the time of the peeling, but you can wear like mascara, eyeliner, that's fine. And lipstick. Thank you.
