Sit toward the edge of your chair with ankles under hips and shoulders aligned with hips and ankles. Keep your core engaged and upper back relaxed throughout the day. Avoid sliding back, which causes slouching and forward neck strain that increases pain.

This video is going to cover our active sitting that we recommend to those patients that are stuck in that desk chair all day. We want to work on relaxing those upper back and neck muscles while still keeping our core engaged. So what we're going to do is sit towards the edge of our chair, bring those ankles underneath our hips, and we are now stacked with our shoulders, hips, and ankles aligned, keeping those core muscles engaged with that upper back and neck stay nice and relaxed. We want to work on being here for as long as we can throughout the day to keep the neck and upper back relaxed. What we're trying to avoid is when we get lazy, sit towards the back of our chair, and we're now slouched forward, shoulders are rounded, neck is jutted forward typically, and we're adding extra stress through those neck muscles and the upper back. So again, sitting towards the edge of our chair, ankles underneath our hips, keeping those core muscles engaged, trying to be here for as long as we can.
