Running Drill - Kickstands

A running drill where you place your front foot forward, pull your heel, and fall forward repeatedly. The coach emphasizes a soft, springy leg and balanced toe engagement. Extending your step forward increases difficulty by raising the fall angle.

One of the drills we can do to focus on our heel pull and work on the rhythm and the cadence of that heel pull and really challenge us a little bit more and really grade it and make it a little bit more difficult simulating some faster positions is what we call the kickstand drill. So what we're going to focus on is putting our front foot, okay, lead foot forward, shifting our center of mass still in line over that foot, and we're just going to focus on really getting this heel pull going. So Here, switch sides. Same thing, weight's over, nice straight spine in line here, and— Okay, to make that more difficult, we're just going to increase our fall angle. So if I step forward further, there's more center of mass further forward, further ahead of me, and so I'm going to have to really work to get back to That position, okay. Again, we're really focusing on keeping all the toes involved. We don't want to have 2 foot, uh, the foot too externally rotated or internally rotated. We want to use pinky toe and big toe just as much as each other, okay. So again, here, pulling, falling, increase the angle. 4 more. We're trying to stay nice and soft with our front leg. I don't want us to feel like you're kicking the ground and hitting really hard. Again, we're trying to stay nice and soft and springy here as we go through. This. As we build up that strength and endurance, there it gets easier to get a little bit faster into the movement.
