Sean Clayton hosts a podcast episode titled "The Power of Stillness," drawing on his personal history of trauma and recovery to teach about stillness using hermetic principles (notably the law of rhythm and polarity). He describes how constant movement can be an avoidance strategy that prevents receiving life's compensations, contrasts movement with rooted stillness using the tree metaphor, and offers practical action items (body awareness, meditation, vulnerability) to cultivate receptivity, resilience, and purposeful living.

Welcome to the Science of Abundance Daily Alchemy podcast. I'm your host, Sean Clayton, and my story is pretty interesting. Went through a ton of trauma, former incarceration, suicide attempts, sexual abuse in my life. And one of the things that's happened in my life is I've actually used hermetic principles, alchemy, all these really cool tools that we hear when we talk about the Illuminati, whatever you want to call it, and develop practices in order to change and affect my lives differently. So within this podcast, I will be giving tidbits and bites for individuals to be able to bite into on a daily basis that will allow you to take baby steps to change your life. But at some point, you'll find the door that starts to change the effect of how you show up on a daily basis. Enjoy this, give feedback, come to my Instagram comment, whatever it might be, always open because we wouldn't be here without each other. Please enjoy and thank you and I love you. On today's episode, I want to talk a little bit about stillness and this one. If anybody knew me from the first 43 years of my life, they would say, what the hell are you talking about, Sean? Because you are the most unstill person. I'd be the guy that was kind of the joke on the zoom calls where individuals would be like, dude, where you at today? Only because I always had a different background and I was traveling a lot and it seemed as though that movement was me to a lot of individuals running from something. When I recognize, just like all things, this beautiful doorway that we call duality and polarity allows us to see the wholeness in the experiences that we create from one extreme or the other. And in what I call the law of you or with most of us will discuss is the law of the hermetics or the hermetic principles. The law of rhythm and the law of polarity work very interestingly together. Because in the law of rhythm there's this thing called compensation. And as the pendulum swings to the right, it will always counterbalance and swing to the left. So as you have a good day, there will always be a bad day that comes. And this is through that extremism of polarity. Now would we, as masters of this trade or as we learn these laws, start to do is we say, if I understand that mastering the law of polarity just is, that means that yes, there will be a compensation that happens, but I don't have to be the receivership of that compensation. I can actually move over it. And then that led me into understanding why I was moving all the time in my life, because I was constantly moving to hop over opportunities of polarity. So if I was constantly on the go, as my body was moving, I was able to dip and dodge and avoid this compensation that was happening in my life by being in one thing to the next to the next. Or what a lot of individuals do is they jump from one job to the next job to the next job, or they act like gypsies in their life and travel everywhere, or they end up going from relationship to relationship to relationship. And the reason that they do this is because there is compensation that is happening. And if they can't take in the, let's say, negative that comes with the positive downswings, then what's going to happen is they end up running from it. And this is where our sympathetic nervous system comes in, because we see those things as trauma, and we don't love that trauma. So what do we do? We run to avoid that trauma. And when we avoid it, what does it do? It chases us. Now the rhythmic law will swing the pendulum back, and then you don't feel it anymore, and you're like, okay, well, I avoided that dodgeball. But if I avoided that dodgeball, it's always going to swing back and hit me again. Which is why we have these patterns in our life that when we think we've solved one problem, we really haven't solved it. We've just run from it. And even though we've removed people from our lives, it doesn't mean that we've solved the problem within ourselves. So in the last couple of months, I've done a lot of work around being still. And I've had individuals come in my life that have reminded me what stillness doesn't look like. And it's been a great recognition because historically, what I would have done is said, man, I actually miss living like that. I miss being on the go. And I've traveled less than I've ever traveled. I'm. I think Delta and American Airlines are probably pretty upset with me because I'm not really cranking those miles like I used to. But what I found is that me standing still in my purpose, one, I'm getting a lot more done than I've ever done before. But number two, I'm able to actually be in a full state of receivership. And when we talk about some of the miracles that happen in our lives, when you go outside and you look at nature, you look at this world, you look at kind of everything that's happening. Take the earth, for instance. If the earth was constantly moving, and it is moving, but if it was constantly moving in an erratic fashion in order to avoid the light, there would never be sunshine on it. It would be constantly dipping and dodging at the right time in order to kind of avoid things. And what we often do is we avoid the light because the light sometimes is pretty hot for us. And when it's too hot, we don't want to necessarily deal with it. So if we can hide in the shadows when that light comes, we might peek out a little bit because we know it feels good. But we don't take and fully embrace it. We don't fully receive the light that's among us because it requires a lot of vulnerability to be in the light. It doesn't require a lot of vulnerability to be in the dark because you're not showing everything. Imagine walking outside right now, ass naked and standing in your truth in front of everybody. Maybe some people will revere you. Maybe some people will laugh, Maybe some people turn up their nose. Maybe some people will look at you in all kind of ways. But when you stand in that truth and that nakedness of self to the world, I'm not asking anybody to go out and do that because there'd probably be a ticket or something. You get or get arrested for indecent exposure. But when you stand in the nakedness of your truth and your vulnerability in life and you have that stillness and that knowing, it creates miracles in your life because you become like the tree. You are able to sit and take in all the blessings around you. You are not movable, and you are able to enjoy what your purpose is in life. Think about a tree that was constantly on the go. Or think about hurricanes that end up blowing the trees around. And when they're windstorms and things like that that are happening, you don't see a lot of birds landing on those trees because it's not a safe place for them to be. They're not a place of stillness, a place of wholeness. They're not attracting anything at that time. They're not able to take in nutrients the way that they're supposed to because they're getting blown all around and they're in constant trauma and whatnot. Even in the stillness of that tree being rooted into the ground, it is having to take in all these different external forces. But when that tree is actually really still and the wind isn't blowing, and even when it blows a little bit, it's okay, because it's Able to recenter itself. It knows at the end of that storm or at the end of that wind, or at the end of that rain or whatever it might be that it goes right back to center because it knows exactly what it is. The tree does not attempt to be a flower or a dog or a cat or anything else. It is just the tree. And in the full embodiment of that tree, it receives everything it's supposed to be. Now imagine this. If the tree could move around, but then recenter itself in stillness, in spaces that it knew, it could create more of an impact where it could actually provide shade, where it could root itself wherever it wanted to because it had mobility to it, where it could go and interact with individuals from a state of wholeness and stillness as a full creator of its life. Imagine the impact that tree would have. Imagine if that tree knew that somebody was super hot and it could just go apply a little bit of shade over them, or donate a branch over here in order to create some wood so that it can actually make a table for somebody, or give somebody the paper that it needed to write the check that they needed to write, whatever it might be. Right. Right. How do we become more like trees? And given the fact that we have mobility and we have free will, choice, and we have the ability to move our state into permanence off of our thoughts and our intentions and our heart, and we can learn how to master these laws so that when that law of compensation comes in, like, swings back and hits you after you've had a really beautiful time, you know how to actually receive that as a blessing from the stillness that you are. And then you know how to root yourself, but you also know how to step a little bit to the side when you need to and let it swing right by you. Because, you know, sometimes that trauma wasn't for you. That trauma was for you to actually move around it, but also be still and watch it so that you can actually step back into the blessing of when that pendulum comes and swings back high again and catch that wind for yourself. So that actual wind, or that pendulum or whatever it is that you want to call it as it comes back your way, you know that you can step right back into it and fully embrace those blessings and do both of those in a state of stillness. You can avoid it in stillness, and you can embrace it in stillness. And the avoidance doesn't mean that you're not in recognition of it. That's usually where people get lost, is they're not in recognition of it. And that Recognition is the awareness that recognition is the expression of it. And that recognition is the compassion that you have for the moments in your life and the life of others to be able to apply healing in a space that's not disruptive for you or the individuals around you. And that disruption means that you're not hurting individuals or taking them down. You're building them up because you're applying a loving frequency and a loving function off of every individual that you touch that's in your life. This is what a lot of the great healers stood for, is the fact that they knew how to stand in their stillness, of what they knew to be true, of what they knew to be love, and what they knew their purposes in this world. And when they were grounded in their purpose and they tied that to their divinity, they were able to pull in the divine plan that was meant for them, that divine roller coaster that they were intended to ride. So a couple of action items for you on this one is, see how still you are. Sit there for a minute, take a deep breath and notice. Are you fidgety? Is your foot shaking? Do you have some twitches that are happening? Where is it happening in your body? Is it the right side or the left side? You know, the right side, you know, is your giving side. The left side is your receiver side. The left side is your feminine. The right side is your masculine. Where is it that you're shaking? Where is it that you're in pain? Where is it that you're agitated? Are you rocking around a lot? Are you really still? Are there moments in your life to where you can actually recognize that, hey, I've been running away from a problem? Can you be still and actually just step to the side and not run and let that problem pass you by, but understand why you created it, to recognize why I should pass you by. And when it does pass you by, you know it, you tell it, you give it a little bit of love and a little bit of forgiveness and compassion, and you let it do its thing. And you also warn some of the other individuals that are around and say, hey, guys, this thing's coming your way. You might want to get out the way. And in that space of stillness and wholeness, what you'll start to experience and you'll feel is the sunshine shining on you all the time. You'll start to recognize that I am ready to be vulnerable because I know my truth, and I know that the way that I stand in this world is to be seen. You think about the story in Genesis of Adam and Eve and when they found out that they were naked they wanted to shield themselves because they lived in shame because they knew that they were naked. That vulnerability is that nakedness and we are constantly in shame when we expose ourselves. But the truth is is the more that I've actually exposed myself the more that I find people accept me because they just also want to be seen too and they want to be heard too in the brokenness and the wholeness of their lives because they realize that the brokenness is just the doorway to their wholeness and that's what our higher selves is always telling us with that remember just to take the time to be still. Do a little bit of meditation every day. Feel yourself find the rhythmic pattern of stillness in your life and recognize that that stillness is is just the ever present now of how you can actually bring yourself more into these grounded moments to receive the most divine version of yourself. Thank you so much for tuning in and I love you.
