Shanli Liu breaks down system-building into three steps: observe what you're already doing, write it down, then teach it to someone else. Teaching reveals gaps you missed, forcing you to improve. Systems aren't built once; they get better as you use them.

Your business is requiring you to create systems in it. Here's an easy way to think about it. So you want to say, what am I already doing in my business? No, it's not a system yet. The first thing you want to do is observe it. The second thing you want to do is write it down. You want to document it. So you want to get everything out of your brain onto a piece of paper, a Google Doc, text, whatever it may be. And then the third thing you're going to do is you're going to try and teach it to someone. And this is the key, is most people think I have to get the system perfect before I can teach it to somebody. As soon as you start to teach somebody, you'll realize, oh, I should be doing differently. Oh, I can't really explain this well because I don't understand how I'm actually doing it. The reality is you want to just observe what you're doing, put it on a piece of paper, try and teach it to someone, and then you learn through the teaching.
