In this short solo video, Shanli Liu, CPA, CTP, presents a three‑part communication framework that she uses in her teaching and plans to feature in a forthcoming book. She explains that effective, especially difficult, conversations can be improved by mastering three elements: (1) saying it with control – managing tone, pacing, and emotional regulation; (2) saying it with confidence – projecting belief in one’s message and authority; and (3) saying it to connect – intentionally creating relational rapport so the listener feels heard. Liu argues that when these three components are consistently applied, a speaker can show up more effectively in any conversation, gaining a “leg up” because each interaction builds on the next rather than being an isolated event.
