When someone calls you a liar, stop trying to convince them. Instead, state you've told the truth and won't debate it. Ask whether they're really disputing what happened or attacking your character, then stay calm enough to end the conversation there.

What to say when someone calls you a liar. What to say when someone calls you a liar. Number 1, don't convince them. People who tell the truth convey the truth. They do not try to convince people of the truth. That means the more you try to push, the more you try to persuade, the weaker your stance becomes. So what we're going to do is grab onto that word convince and flip it to work for your response. For example, I'm not here to convince you. I'm not trying to convince you. I don't need to convince you. I've told you the truth. Number 2, don't argue it. The more you do, the more you feed their fear rather than cool it down. Instead, just acknowledge the difference of opinion. For example, "It's okay to disagree with me. You can disagree with me, but I'm not going to argue facts." And number 3, you have to stay calm. Be comfortable with ending the conversation where it is. One question I like to use is, "Is this really about what happened, or is this now about my character?" And this typically opens up the conversation for them to share projections that had nothing to do with you. So try that and follow me.
