Belly fat sticks around because of poor blood flow to that area. Do intense ab work followed by cardio to increase blood flow and mobilize the fat. Test it for 4-6 weeks with a calorie deficit to see if your waist shrinks.

The key factor here is blood flow. Belly fat is stubborn because it has lower blood flow compared to muscles in, say, your legs. By engaging the abs with targeted exercises and following with cardio, blood flow increases, helping mobilize fat to be burned as energy. As to whether this could be the same for women, we'll either A) have to wait until they run this study on women, or B) just give it a shot for 4 to 6 weeks and see if we get similar results. I wouldn't wait on a study on women if I were you. The takeaway? If you want to focus on belly fat, aim for a calorie deficit, add intense ab workouts, and combine them with cardio. It's not a guaranteed fix, but it may give you an edge in slimming down your waistline.
