Women over 40 stuck in weight-loss plateaus often eat only 1,400-1,600 calories daily and need to stop cutting more. Instead, track honestly, shift to strength training to build muscle, and expect the scale to rise temporarily as your body adapts. Give it 8-12 weeks before judging results.

So if I was over 40, stuck, frustrated, doing everything right and still not losing weight, here are the first 3 things that I would do. I would stop assuming I need to eat less because let's be honest, most women I talk to in this phase are already eating 1,400 to 1,600 calories. They're skipping snacks, they're careful at dinner, they're working out 5 or 6 days a week, yet the scale is still creeping up. So I would get honest about how much I'm actually eating and how long I've been undereating. Not to judge it, just to see it clearly. Because if you've been chronically underfueling for years, the answer is probably not cut more. Second, I would prioritize lifting weights in a way that builds muscle, not just burns calories. Not a boot camp, not circuits that leave you drenched in sweat and on the floor. I would focus on getting stronger because after 40, muscle is the thing that makes fat loss possible. Cardio just makes you tired. And third, I would prepare myself for the scale to mess with my head for a few weeks. If you start eating a little more and if you start lifting properly, the scale might bump up before it drops. That doesn't mean it's not working. It means your body is adjusting. Give it a minute. Most women quit right there, not because it's not working, but because they panic. If you're over 40, stuck at 1,500 calories, and nothing is changing, comment "coach" and I'll send you my free menopause fat loss training. Because trust me, you don't need more restriction. You need a smarter strategy. And I would give it at least 8 to 12 weeks before deciding whether it's working. Because at this stage, the goal isn't to shrink. It's to finally stop fighting physiology and start working with it.
