Lindsay, a midlife metabolism coach, explains why women over 40 shouldn't skip breakfast during perimenopause. Eat 30g protein within 1-2 hours of waking, space meals 3-4 hours apart, and follow the 3-2-1 evening rule: finish eating three hours before bed, stop water two hours before, no screens one hour before sleep.

Okay, let's talk about meal timing for fat loss and metabolism for women over 40. I'm Lindsay, I'm a board-certified midlife metabolism and strength coach. So first, if you are skipping breakfast, please stop. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day for women in general, especially once we hit perimenopause and menopause and our estrogen drops. Not eating breakfast in the morning can spike your cortisol and just set the tone for the day. So first, eat within 1 to 2 hours upon waking. And no, coffee and vibes do not count. At least 30 grams of protein and a good source of fiber. Then eat your next meal 3 to 4 hours after that. So if you wake up at 7, eat between 7 and 9, and then your second meal should be around 12 or 1. And then eat your final meal 3 to 4 hours after that. This way your body has time to go from digestion mode to sleep mode. Because when your body has to choose between digestion and falling asleep, you're gonna have a bad time. Follow the 3-2-1 rule. Last meal 3 hours before bed, last water 2 hours before bed, and no screens 1 hour before bed. This puts you in a natural intermittent fast, but in a healthy way.
