Visceral fat around your organs drives inflammation and poor metabolic health. It builds up when you have low muscle mass, not enough fiber, inconsistent movement, and unstable blood sugar. The fix: 0.8g protein per pound of body weight, 25-40g fiber daily, 90 minutes of strength training weekly, and 5,000-8,000 steps.

I have less than 2 ounces of visceral fat on my body. Here's how. First, what is visceral fat? Visceral fat is the fat stored around your organs, not under your skin. It's metabolically active, inflammatory, and strongly linked to insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and poor metabolic health. This is the fat that matters most for long-term health, and it's the fat most people unknowingly accumulate as they age, especially during perimenopause and menopause. Here's the part people miss: visceral fat doesn't accumulate because of one bad meal or a missed workout. It accumulates when muscle is low, fiber is low, movement is inconsistent, and blood sugar is unstable. So what keeps it low? Not extremes, not cutting carbs, and not endless cardio. This is the strategy I follow consistently: Protein: 0.8 grams per pound of body weight to preserve lean mass, improve insulin sensitivity, and support metabolism. Fiber. I eat 25 to 40 grams per day from whole food sources. This stabilizes blood sugar, feeds the gut, and reduces inflammation. I strength train 90 minutes a week. Muscle is protective against visceral fat accumulation. And daily movement. I get 5,000 to 8,000 steps per day to support glucose disposal and metabolic health without overstressing my body. If you want to understand how menopause changes fat storage and how to work with your physiology instead of fighting it, Comment "coach" for my free menopause training. None of this is flashy. All of it is effective, especially midlife and beyond. This is what actually keeps visceral fat low as hormones change. This isn't about chasing leanness. It's about protecting your health.
