In this 2026 YouTube presentation, Shelly Howard, founder and CEO of CollegeReady and 2026 Global Educational Consultant of the Year, outlines a comprehensive, full‑service college admissions consulting model designed to help parents guide their children into college while avoiding financial strain and emotional burnout. Howard establishes credibility by citing 18 years of experience, two bestselling books, a podcast, and over $80 million in scholarships awarded to her students (including $11.8 million in 2026 alone). She explains that modern admissions require more than GPA and test scores, detailing a holistic framework that covers academic planning (AP/IB/dual enrollment), strategic testing (SAT/ACT/PSAT), extracurricular leadership, community‑service projects, essay polishing (professional editing, not ghostwriting), recommendation letters, and interview preparation. Howard introduces the proprietary “Knowledge Vault” platform, a password‑protected dashboard that aggregates college data (admissions stats, costs, financial‑aid generosity) to inform strategic applications. She emphasizes a financial‑aid roadmap, clarifying misconceptions about income, the FAFSA, and the Student Aid Index, and shares a case where a 3.8 GPA student secured $427 k in scholarships. A student‑led nonprofit initiative is highlighted as a model of authentic community impact that strengthens applications. The talk concludes with a call to action: families can schedule a free 30‑minute clarity call via college‑ready‑plan.info or access free resources at college‑ready‑plan.com.

Hello, my name is Shellee Howard, and I am the founder and CEO of CollegeReady and the 2026 Global Educational Consultant of the Year. My goal today is to help you navigate how to get your student into college without losing your mind or your money. That was the name of my first bestselling book, and it's still available on Amazon. Toda, I'm gonna share how over the last 18 years my students have earned over $80 million in scholarships. In just 2026 alone, our students earned $11.8 million. We are more than just college admissions picking a school. We are the whole package from the academic plan to the testing plan to the community service, passion with purpose, to leadership and extracurriculars and letters of recommendation, all the way to the essay. And so if that sounds like something you would like more information on, please stay tuned. I have just a brief slideshow I'd like to show you. We do help students from middle and high school as well as transfer students. So let's go ahead and get started. Okay, so as I mentioned, thank you so much for being here. At the top you will see my two bestselling books. I am also the host of a podcast, Parents, Is Your Teen College Ready? And I just had my episode aired on Next level CEO. I've been at this for over 18 years, and our students are 100% successful. I want to help you do what I love to do best, and that is imagine what it would like to see your child cross the stage. And that was my firstborn. He is the reason why College Ready got started. So today I'm going to go over GPA and test score no longer enough. What does it need? What does your child need to get accepted? Knowledge equals no debt, no mistakes. All 4 of my own children have gotten into their dream school and graduated debt-free. My son's path was Harvard to UC San Diego Medical School to UCLA orthopedic surgery. My daughter's was University of Alabama pediatric registered nurse. My second son went to San Francisco State and is now finishing up PA school at Berkeley. And my fourth did a European, U.S., and international degree. Let's dive in. First thing I want you to know is college is a business. That school needs your child as much as you need them. So if you put on that mindset, you're going to understand how the big money comes. What affects college admissions? Of course, admissions changed. No longer do we put a stamp on an envelope and send it off. Of course not. It's more expensive and more competitive than it's ever been.. It's all about how many AP, IB, dual enrollment, how many APs that student can do well on their exams. Grades are so very important. Are they unweighted or weighted? That depends on the university. Is testing really optional? No, it is not. It could be optional today but required tomorrow. Please have a testing strategy for your child. Does college ranking actually matter? If your school has it, yes. If they don't, no. Extracurricular activities. How do you know if they're good, better, or best? I would be happy to tell you. How do I help my child be unique? Well, that depends on your child, their gifts, their talents, their advocacy, their core values. Happy to help. Essays— we have professional essay editors. They polish, they do not write. Having the student understand their own interests, their own special skills, and their passions will send them off into adulthood so much better off. Are letters of recommendation important? Absolutely. Diversity and leadership. It shows your child can work with other students. Who wouldn't want to hire somebody who could collaborate? And the college interview, the icing on the cake. I'm going to show you really brief about how we do it, and this right here is a quick video, and I'll show you just the beginning. The Knowledge Vault is an incredible piece of technology that I hope that you will enjoy starting today. Protected. The only people who have the password protected. You will have access to our email, which is right here. Simply click the button. You add a college. You will see some very important things. You will see quick facts. You will see admissions. You will see GPA, test scores. You will see total cost. You will see financial aid, how generous they are, and other campus activities. You will also see— that was custom built with 18 years of intellectual property. That's how we're able to be so successful. The knowledge— now, when it comes to your child and affordability, Have them take the most challenging classes they can get an A in. Have a strategic testing plan. Will they take the SAT or the ACT? It does not matter. It just matters that they know when to take it, where to take it, how to take it, and how many times to take it. Test prep is so important. The PSAT can equal a free college degree. Taking AP, honors, IB, dual enrollment will all drive down the cost of college. Having a strategy and a plan will keep you from loans. Planning your college search is critical. There are colleges that are very generous and that are very stingy. Know before you apply. Look for colleges with a financial package and a strong track record. Leverage everything you can to compete for your child. Their financial need. We also have a wonderful nonprofit that is led by our students, and I'll give you an idea of what that is right here. Of $7,500 US dollars, and this year we have sent over 300 copies of our different medical-related booklets, which are all written and illustrated by our committee. What our group's goal for this project was, was to raise funds in order to buy all of the soccer equipment that they could ever need to play safely and happily. I hope for my hope for an empowered future. You want to breathe and walk? Breathe and walk? Great. But this is the beginning. I hope you can see that community service is not about checking boxes. This group of students are all over the United States. We meet together once a week for an hour. These students have raised well over $48,000. They educate 950 children. This is what impact looks like. This is what gets students into college and graduate without debt. Now, there's some misconceptions. You may be thinking, my income is too high, I'm not going to get any money. My child's grades are too low. We own a home. Trust me, I've heard it all. I help students from multimillionaire to need-based. It doesn't matter. There's 4 buckets of money. Only one of those has anything to do with your income. 3 of them have everything to do with your child. Understanding where to find the scholarships is a critical piece to the process. We know where to get the money. I had a student this year, she had a 3.8 GPA and received over $427,000 in scholarships. She'll make money by going to college. Understanding what your student aid index is a critical factor in all of this. It's not just your parents' income and assets, it's also student income and assets and so many other things. The FAFSA is a very important document and 97% of families complete it wrong. I provide you with a financial aid roadmap. I am not a financial advisor. I am a Certified Independent College Consultant who truly believes the return on investment of an education. If your child doesn't know what they want to do for a major or for a career, we can help.
