Have you ever been at a closing or doing a notary job and made the exact same mistake three different times? I'm going to tell you right now about seven different mistakes that you can make as a notary that I've personally made and hope that you don't repeat these dumb mistakes. Okay, Mistake number one, pulling out my stamp and just stamping the document. Well, why she didn't look at that stamp to make sure it wasn't upside down. Every time you pull that stamp out, look at it. I have done this on more than one occasion in a day. I've been to three back to back appointments and did the same thing on these people. Good paper that they printed out. Not that I printed. They printed it out. Number two, not reading the certificate, wording carefully. So if I'm gonna show you some documents, right, we're gonna switch there right now. And on these documents you're gonna see where it's in. Easy if you don't read it to put your client's name versus your name. I've done that one too. Let's take a look. Mistake number three, not entering the correct venue. And by venue, I mean the location of where you are notarizing the document where you are sitting. Notarizing the document. You see, when it says state of county of that means your current location doesn't mean where you live. Sway, you could be notarizing a document in another county than where you live. So you have to put the county where you are notarizing the document where you are sitting at the time of the notarization. That's what you need to put. Number four, not printing or signing your name as it appears on your notary stamp. Took me a while to figure this out, but I did. You need to look at the laws in your state in the state of Texas and I believe in Florida, however your name appears on your stamp. Dear heart, I don't care if it's Lashonda, Kimmy Laquan, Baptiste, Johnson Smith. You gotta write all of that, Sway. All of it. I don't care if it's Samantha, Suzanne Marie, Carrie Ann Douglas. Every name you have has to go. Every time. Not sometimes, not your initials. Every time you sign a document, you have to put that whole name if that is how it appears on your stamp. Do not forget that. Number five. Improperly dating a notary certificate. You came backdated just because the date on the document says it was yesterday. No, you have to date your notarial certificate on the day that you actually perform the notarial act. Make sure because it's doggone near illegal to be back dating even if somebody asks you to. That's not what you are supposed to do. Number six, improper placement of your notary seal or stamp. Like I said, Sway, it can't be upside down. It cannot be blurry. It cannot be partially show part of the stamp and then, you know, fade away because it's not on a hard surface or the ink is going low. It has to be a clear and concise stamp showing everything that's on the underside of your stamp. Why don't they give you ample room to place your stamp? And guess what? I've heard that there is a tiny stamp available. I'm gonna give y' all a link to where you can purchase a tiny stamp to make sure that that stamp fits into those little bitty crevices. Because, baby, my regular size stamp. Oh, I'd be wishing, and on a for real prayer that I don't cover the words or cover my signature. I'm saying, Lord Jesus, please, please don't let it. Oh, great. Got it. Listen, it just shouldn't be that much prayer going into no stamp like that, you know? So I'll show y' all that little tiny stamp crossing out the commission expiration date. That's number eight. I said I was just gonna give you seven, but I'm gonna give you a bonus. Number eight. So you know how your commission expires, right? And you don't get another stamp, so you just cross it out and write in the correct date. Get another stamp, Boo Boo. If your commission expired, it's time to get another stamp.
