Hey, this is TJ with Solutions by tj. And today I'm going to talk about a subject that a lot of people have asked me because I've spoken about it in other videos. How to become a notary public loan signing agent. At the end of this video, I'm going to give you a checklist so that you have every single thing that you need when you do your first signing. So stay tuned till the very end. And guess what? I'm giving you the real deal. I'm not leaving anything out. So before we get started, be sure to, to click the subscribe button and the notification bell and like this video. So let's get into it. What's the notary signing agent and what's the difference between a notary and a notary loan signing agent? A notary public simply witnesses signatures. That's all they do. And they charge per signature that they witness. A signing agent also witnesses signatures. But they, they help borrowers to complete real estate loan documents and they notarize those documents, return them to the title company or the lender on time so that they can be processed. And they do this by either going to the borrower's house, their job, or wherever they are. And that's why they're also called mobile notary public loan signing agents. What do you need to get started? You can visit nationalnotary.org or call the 1-800number. Now the 1,800number is here. You can take it down here. Or when you get to the website national notary.org it's at the very bottom of the screen. I personally call the number and they walk me through everything because I didn't feel like, you know, jumbling around on that website trying to figure anything out. They give you every single thing that you need. If you are not currently a notary, you have to be a notary first and then become a notary public loan signing agent. So the cost when, when I paid, I was already a notary. So that cost is not in here. And this reflects me renewing my certification. So there's continuing education that you have to do. Every year it costs $99. Basic renewal was 139. And they give you a stamp. And you also have to have what's called errors and omissions insurance, which is EO insurance. I highly recommend that you get it because if you ever make an error, that's what saves your butt and gives you the money to fight it in court or whatever you have to do. It's a serious business and you have to really know what you are doing. So my total cost came out to be $375.59 just for me to renew. But again, these costs are for somebody that's already a notary and I'm just renewing. If this is your first time, I highly recommend that you buy this doggone book. Now I don't get paid anything for telling you to buy this book. However, it's an open book test, so you complete the test faster if you buy this doggone book, which only costs $38. So add that to your cost as well. It's, you know, you go to the index, look up the question or look up some of the subject matter to the question and then complete the test. Now my recommendation is also that you buy the study guide. They have an online study thing. It takes a minute to complete, but it describes everything to you in complete detail.
Once you've passed the exam, you sign up to a site called snapdocs. Now let's go to Snapdocs real quick. This is what snapdocs looks like. I just started doing notary jobs again in the past couple of months. But you get paid. I mean, you can see some of them I did for $60. That was for 35 pages. And anytime I'm doing 200 pages or above, which are most mortgage documents, I want it at a minimum 100 documents. Some of them are only tax documents. And tax documents are usually the $60, $50. $60. It's just for 35 pages. They will ask you when you get to Snapdocs for to upload your credentials. So your notary commission, you have to do a background check in order to become a notary. Your E and O insurance and your national notary certification.
So they also make you complete a W9.
And so let's also, while we're here, go to the National Notary Association. So if you want to become a notary, then this is the page that you go to that I spoke about earlier. Nationalnotary.org you click here to become a notary. If you want to be a notary public loan signing agent because you're already a notary, you, you click on the become a notary public loan signing agent button and it will take you to this page. It'll ask you what state because there are different qualifications in each state. Once you have subscribed and become a member, there is a training center. This is what the back end looks like. So you have your account information, your signing agent profile. I sign up so that if I'm at a signing and have a question. I, I can easily call the hotline and they give me the information that I need just in case I forget. This shows when your commission is your how much EO insurance. I personally need as much coverage as I can get. So I've requested $100,000 worth of coverage and there's also a bond for $10,000.
And this shows recent orders and all of the other stuff that I've completed. So let's go to the training center real quick so that I can show you that. And this is basically what it looks like. It gives you your order history, your addresses, your training and transcripts as well as your certifications. Okay, so again, the notary, signing agents, loan documents, source book. This is a, another good book to have. I mean I think that that book really saves your life. It shows you my courses, it gives you a catalog. You get the whole nine here. And I want you to see my signing agent profile. This is how people find you. You create a profile. You upload your picture and here all the profile details, the background screened. Are you active? This is exactly how people find you. Notary services. It asks you, are you an attorney? How many years have you been a notary? What's your availability, your willingness to travel, whether or not you speak a different language, service areas, this is really important. Holidays, you can make a killing. I made over a thousand dollars in a week on holidays. Fill in this additional information and be sure that you do it. It talks about my schedule, it talks about my availability. And my service area is comprised of zip codes near downtown Houston. Everything that's around my house, that's what I wanted people to know because I need for it. Because I have a full time job, I want it to be easy to get there and use as less gas as possible. So you know, that's something to think about when you are filling this out. But make sure that you fill this portion out and come back to this video and you can take all of my words if you need to and copy them. Just add your zip codes.
And if you are any type of diverse business, again, when you're doing this, you are an independent contractor. So you know, fill out every single thing that you need to. When people are looking for you, they are not coming to national notary association, national notary.org they're coming to a website called signingagent.com then they click on a button and it says, you know, you can put in the name of a person or just an area.
And your credentials come up. So this is me, this is everything that I showed you on the previous page and this is how they get in touch with you. If you are not within snapdocs, if you are in snapdocs then they simply go to snapdocs, fill something out. You'll get a text message every single time an opportunity comes up and.
And that's how you will know when signings come up in your area.
It also there's a quiz that you take in snapdocs real quick quiz and shows that you are verified as well and it increases your ranking. There is a ranking at the bottom of this page and my ranking is high.
And what makes my ranking high is that I've uploaded my commission documents, verified my ID enabled SIMS notifications and you know I've taken that quiz. So that's what makes.
Your ranking high. And you definitely want to make your ranking high and you want to do everything possible to get as many signings as you possibly can.
So that's how. Okay, so you sign up to snapdocs. Now once you've passed the exam, you need to get an appropriate printer and we'll come back to the appropriate printer because I'm going to put a link in the comments of where you can go to figure out what type of printer to get because that's very important. It has to be a laser printer and it has to be able to print on legal sized paper. You'll also need multicolored sticky notes, blue pens because people sign in blue only. That's normally a request medium sized binder clips in order to hold all of those documents together. Again you're printing out 200 pages at a time and most signing companies, or most mortgage companies, title companies want you to print two of those documents. So make two copies. So you will be printing 400 pages more than likely. You'll also need some type of expandable file box to put all of your supplies in and you'll have to buy legal sized paper. So let's go back and talk about this appropriate printer, laser printers or the standard do not use ink printers to print a package of documents. You need your own private equipment. It can't be a public printer. And ideally your printer should have two sources where it can pull from either legal size paper or letter size paper. Color printing isn't necessary, but if you have one, that's great. Make sure that your toner is always printing dark so that you get the best quality of print possible. And if you go down here, it just gives you all of the information that you need the ABCs of the printer. Whether you need a multi function printer, multifunction center network printer. My sister and my mom have, because my whole family does this. So they have the brother printer. This is the one they have. I actually have the HP 402 printer.
And it gives you all the specs about how much you'll pay and everything. So yeah, I'm putting this page in the comments. Look through it when you have an opportunity.
And this is the checklist that I'm going to give you for when you accept a job in snapdocs or you get a call from someone who needs a mobile notary. So here's the checklist. Once you accept the job, these are all the steps that you do. Confirm by calling the client. Verify their location. Ask for the name on the license as it appears and ask for the expiration date. Because all of your clients have to have an up to date license, if it's expired, you cannot use it. Verify their marital status because if they are married, both individuals must be there to sign the loan document. And once you see the loan documents, make sure that both of their names are on there. If it isn't, then verify with the company that you're working for whether or not those both names need to be on those documents. Ask the client to also have a copy of their security, Social Security card and license for the signing agent or at least some other type of id because we have to ask that they present two different forms of identification. In preparing for.
Your signing appointment, print and follow all of the closing instructions. You got to read this each and every time because every client will be different and have different requirements. You print the documents on legal size paper, print two copies of the documents, and if there are settlement documents, I recommend that you print three copies of those.
One for each person in the room. So those three copies is one for you to read from, one for and one for both clients. And this is important. The reason that I told you to buy those multicolored sticky notes, because I want you to tag all places where signatures or initials are required so that you don't forget because people will stop using you if you have too many mistakes. Also tag where you have to seal and that needs to be in different a different color so you use a different color sticky note. So if you need to place your seal on one of those pages that needs to be a different color. And call your lender if anything at all is unclear to you. You can also call the NNA if you have questions pertaining directly to Something that a notary needs to do. Once you're at the signing appointment, again, use blue ink unless you're asked to do otherwise by the company that hire you. Signatures must be the same as they appear on the document, exactly the same. If their name is Catherine, they can't sign with Katie or any other name. The last names, everything has to be exactly as it appears on the document. Before you leave, check for any missing signatures, any missing dates, make sure that all of your notary seals are there and make sure that they sign your notary book. I remember one time I got excited and forgot to get my doggone notary book signed. But that's a part of the legal process in the state of Texas. You have to get that book signed and you have to fill it out completely.
If the client has any questions about any of the numbers or any of the documents, you are not there, you are not acting as an attorney, so you don't answer those questions. They have to talk to their lender directly for any question that they have. So if they have any questions about those documents, they have to call their lender. Once the appointment is over, you follow the mail back instructions. So sometimes they want you to drop the packet off at FedEx and they also may want you to.
Provide copies of all the documents and upload those copies right into snapdocs. So you'll have to have some type of document. Right now, the app that I use for that, I will put it in the.
In the description as well. But I use an, an app called Adobe Scan to scan all of my documents, put it in a PDF and then I uploaded into snapdocs. And also as soon as it's over, go back to SnapDocs, confirm in SnapDocs that the signing is complete, everything went well, and then go back and mail the documents, drop them off to be mailed. Keep the receipt when you drop it off at FedEx because you never know. Some people you know may lose the documents at FedEx and you need to be able to prove that you dropped those documents off and be able to show the lender. No, I dropped everything off. This is the date, this is the time. So make sure that you keep that. And that concludes what I'm going to give you today.
Please make sure again that you come back to this video if you have any questions. Also make sure that you subscribe and click the notification bell if you haven't done so already. And like this video, I'm giving you a lot of information, so for absolutely free. So I do appreciate your like and subscribe because it helps other people get this information. And from the other videos that I've seen, not knocking anybody, but they aren't as comprehensive as this one, as with all of the resources that I provide. So God bless you. Thank you so much for watching.
