Short excerpt from a YouTube interview with Sonya Shelton promoting her Amazon bestseller about leadership. Shelton contrasts being an executive (holding authority/title) with being a true leader (creating purpose/vision and inspiring voluntary followership), and critiques leaders who rely on titles to command compliance.

Chapters

You published an Amazon bestseller, and you are talking about the hidden aspect of being a true leader. The book's called you're an Executive. But are you a leader? A bit provocative. Intentionally? Because I think that a lot of leaders lean on their title in leadership. So sometimes people will say, well, what's the difference between an executive and a leader? There isn't a difference. They can be the same person. But one, you know, one aspect of leadership is learning leaning on your title. You're a manager, you're a business owner. And because you have that position of authority, you're coming with this, using that to tell people what to do and expecting them to follow you. Whereas being a leader is really about creating that strong purpose and vision and then encouraging people to follow you.
