I want to share a mindset tip that I've used with myself and with clients, and I call it echoes in the canyon. If you're somebody that spins out or has a negative spiral in your head and you keep thinking over and over a negative thought or phrase, or you have a negative picture and it's kind of driving you bonkers, there's a reason for it. I think of it like echoes in a canyon. So imagine that you're standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon or some beautiful canyon and you're yelling that negative thing or that negative picture keeps presencing itself and that's all that's in there and imagine that that's your mind and your mind will start to spin with it and all you hear is, I'll never figure this out, I'll never figure this out, I'll never figure this out, I'll never figure this out. Instead, if we can have an answering callback in that canyon and it almost doesn't matter what the callback is. It can be a question, it can be a statement, It can be an idea. If you can answer that echo with something, it stops the flow of the echo just going right on in. So let's say it's you have, I'll never figure this out, or I don't know how this is going to work out. I don't know how this is going to work out. I don't know how it's going to work out. What if that echoing answer was, but I'll figure it out. I'll figure it out. I'll figure it out. Then you've actually got something that can create a dissonance. If there's just Totally one thought, it lives on in your brain. It lives on, and you can spin and negatively spiral. But if you answer it with a question— what if I do figure it out? What if I find a way? I've done this before— coming up with one solution-oriented thought or just a question can stop that echo in its tracks. I hope that helps you. It certainly helps me when I notice I've got an echo in my canyon that I do not want.
