In this 10‑minute YouTube fitness session, Master Tea Theresa Byrne guides viewers through a Halloween‑themed boxing‑style warm‑up. She begins with cross‑body punches, emphasizing elbow safety and hip rotation, then progresses to hook punches, uppercuts, and coordinated jab‑cross‑knee combos, constantly reminding participants to engage the core and breathe. A distinctive neuro‑plasticity exercise follows: reaching across the body to touch the opposite knee, intended to stimulate contralateral brain activation—a point she ties to her personal experience recovering from a brain injury. The routine continues with front, side, and back kicks, each explained with speed, pivot, and foot‑placement cues. Hip and shoulder mobility is addressed through full‑circle rotations, highlighting the ball‑and‑socket nature of these joints. The session culminates in sumo squats and speed‑bag‑style core work, all delivered with an enthusiastic, warrior‑like motivational narrative that stresses movement snacks, stress relief, gratitude, and personal rhythm. The instructor’s tone is instructional, supportive, and playful, punctuated by Halloween references and personal anecdotes.

Hey, hi, Master Tea Theresa Byrne here. If you are interested in moving your body a little bit, I'd love to have you join in. I'll get some music started and we will warm you up. And let's just start with punching across your body and make sure that you cross as far over as you are comfortable, never hyperextending your elbows. Let me hit my timer so I don't go over. And extend, extend, extend. The most important part of this move right here is actually the rotation, because you want to start warming up your hips, you want to start warming up your back, and by extending your arms, you're also warming up your shoulders. Let's take them up higher. Nice and easy. Breathing in, breathing out. Just take a few moments for yourself. Life is whatever life is, right? Stressful, it's busy, it's overwhelming, it's fun, it's awesome, it's all of the things. So now we're going to take our punches all the way over to the side. Doing little movement snacks or getting some movement in every day, huge difference. And if you're ever overwhelmed by feelings and not happy ones, get some movement in. It can really help to shift everything. All right, we're going to turn these into hook punches. So your arm is a— like a hook, right? Like you are a right angle, for my physicists out there, for my geometric scientists. Good. Hook, hook, hook, hook. Great for your body, great for your back. And now uppercut. And any of these moves, I tend to go a little bit fast because I do it very, very, um, Fluidly, fluidity, fluidly. You can go 1, 1, 1, 1, and I want you to continue to get that hip rotation in and move that back over to the side, your back to the side. Good. Now we're going to go hook, hook, up, up, hook, hook, up, up. And while they look like arm warm-ups, they are arm warm-ups, They're also back and core warm-ups. So think about tightening your core and breathing in from your core as you're doing this. Kind of think about, you know, what do you want to get out of this next 10 minutes— 8 minutes now. All right, 3, 2, and 1. Now the next move is also for your back, but it's for your brain. So you're going to reach over and make contact with your opposite knee. Now, depending on your flexibility, and today you might be able to do knee to elbow, you might be able to just do knee to hand. I just want you to make contact because that sends a signal to your brain contralaterally that you are here, you are focused, and it helps with your neuroplasticity. And as somebody who had the opportunity to heal a brain injury all over my head, I love neuroplasticity and neurogenesis, which is the recreation of brain nerve cells. 4 more. 3, 2, 1. Now front kicks. You're just going to pick up your foot and kick out to the front. You may notice I'm in my Halloween garb. It's Halloween here today. I guess it's Halloween everywhere. Today, or at least October 31st everywhere. You determine. Maybe, maybe I'm wearing this and it's March. It sounds like me. Little front kicks. Now we're gonna go little side kicks. You pick up your knee and kick off to the side with your heel, nice and low. And again, whatever speed is comfortable for you. If we were going higher, I would make you pivot That foot. But since we're keeping it nice and low, the pivot is not as important. I repeat, you pivot if you went higher. Good. Next move, you're going to bring a knee up, step it down underneath you, and kick to the back. Knee, kick back. Knee, kick back. Knee, kick back. Knee, kick back. It's actually easy once you get the hang of it because you're using both sides of your body. Which is one of the reasons martial arts is so good for the brain and anyone who is working on peak performance, coordination, doing both sides, doing things on both sides of the body. Fantastic. Other knee, back kick, knee, back. And as you do your back kick, you're just picking up your heel. And sending that foot back, that heel back, like you're carrying something and you're closing the garage door. Am I the only one that closes the doors with your feet? I also use my feet when I open and close the dishwasher. I haven't gotten to cabinets yet, but I'll work on it. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Good. Now a little hip opener. Circle that hip. Good. These are 360 joints. So your shoulders and your hips are what's called ball and socket. This is my impression of a ball and socket. And they like it when we do round movements. So that's why shoulder openers are good, hip openers. And let's do this going the other way too. From the outside to the inside. Switch. Outside to the inside, kind of like you're closing a door, closing the gate. 3, 2, and 1. Awesome! Hip circles. So even if you just stick around for these range of motion moves and some of this as a warm-up, your body will thank you. Switch directions. Breathe. Breath is the antidote to stress. Breath is the antidote to adrenaline. Now push side to side. So there's these little muscles here. If you've ever watched any of the videos, I talk a lot about these muscles shortening, shortening when you are sitting a lot. So you want to move them, get a little blood flow, tension release. Temperature? Nice. All right, so check into your body, check into your neck, your shoulders. I'm gonna have you start with your right leg forward, and we're just gonna jab and cross, jab and cross, jab, cross, making sure you still rotate your body. Shoulders are down. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Jab, cross, knee. Jab, cross, knee. 1, 2, knee. 1, 2, knee. 1, 2, knee. 1, 2, knee. Now I go fast. You can go 1, 2, knee. 1, 2, knee. We move because we can. We move because we must. You got this. We are warriors. You don't want to hear me sing. We're going to turn that into a front kick. Bam. 1, 2, kick. 1, 2, kick. 1, 2, kick. Kick. Good. Keep it going. Keep it going. Keep going. 3, 2, 1. Nice work. Other side. Let me make sure my timer's still on. Warriors. Jab and cross. And again, you can just go nice and easy. I tend to go faster, plus the song that I created is a little fast because I know my tempo. Do you know your tempo? Do you know what feels best to your body? Each of us get a chance to decide. It's in our operating manual. We just have to uncover it. 3, 2, and 1. Jab, cross, knee. 1, 2, knee. 1, 2, knee. Or 1, 2, knee. You feel into your own rhythm. I love it when people say they can't dance. Because to me, dance is just— it's an expression of your body moving. So even if it's this, you're dancing. You're dancing. Yeah, you're punching, you're kneeing, you're punching, you're kneeing. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Let's kick it out. 1, 2, kick. 1, 2, kick. And when you're doing these kicks, you just pick up your knee, extend your toes, bring it back to a knee, and then set it down. Keep going. 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Nice. Good. This is called the sumo squat. It's my favorite squat ever on the whole planet. You're gonna go up And down. Toes face out. Knees never go over your toes. If my knees go over my toes, I'm putting too much pressure on my knee joints. And while we're here, speed bag off to the right. You've seen, uh, boxers, seen movies. Switch to the left. Keep it up, keep it up, keep it up. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Hold it down. Slight rotation. Let me check my timer. I need to turn it so it doesn't turn off. Working your abs, working your core. You can go as fast or as slow as you want to go. Shoulders rotating. 3, 2, 1. Nice. You did it. You got your 10-minute exercise snack in. Get grateful. Give your body a little gratitude. Give your life a little gratitude. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you for letting me be your teacher for this last 10 minutes. I appreciate you.
