Dear Scary Guy, my name is Kaylee. I am 15 years old. I have a few questions about today's society. I don't know if I was absent the day they taught this or what. But could someone fill me in? When did cruel become cool? Why do you need to make someone upset to laugh? Why must you make someone feel bad to make yourself feel good? When did giving someone a hard time become a good time? Why doesn't anyone think about or take responsibility for their actions? How can anyone look at themselves in the mirror if they know they have ruined someone's day? Knowing what you said or did made someone cry. I don't know about everyone else, but I just don't understand. The last couple of months I've been seeing people outright cruel to one another and in and out of school, and it confuses me because I would never You never intentionally hurt someone, physically or mentally, especially not for fun. I've seen people who talk about how bad bullying and such is, and then they turn around and make fun of someone else. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "What you do speaks so loudly that I can't hear what you say." I know not everyone is like this. In fact, I've witnessed a few people intervening. But I can't understand why anyone would want to be like this but it also shows me that they themselves are unhappy in some way. Sometimes I pity people when they bully just as much as a victim, although they still have absolutely no excuse for putting someone else through hell. And I'm not gonna say grow up because adults act this way too. Instead, I ask that we be better than our parents and elders. I know some people who hear this will ignore it or laugh at it. But if just one person hears it and takes it to heart, then they can inspire someone else, and that person someone else, and so forth. One step at a time. Sincerely, Kaylee Tibneau.
