Are You Getting Passed Over For Promotions Despite Your Hard Work? @traviasteward

Travia Steward explains why promotions go to people managers see as the best investment, not just hard workers. List your concrete accomplishments, ask your manager for a promotion conversation, and act like the person you want to become.

You've been working hard, doing everything right, yet somehow you keep getting passed over for every promotion that's up in your department. And the worst part is you are watching other people, maybe even people who are less experienced than you, get ahead while you stay stuck in that same position. You see, it's not because you're not qualified. It's because you're playing the wrong game. Most believe that promotions are about effort and working hard. If you just work hard enough, somebody will notice and reward you. But if that were true, the hardest working people would always be at the top. And we all know that's not the case. You see, the truth is promotions don't go to the best worker. They go to the person who is perceived as the best investment. So if you're stuck, it's not because you're not good enough. It's because you're not being seen in the right way. You're not positioning yourself as the best person for that role, for that promotion. So if you don't believe in your value, why should anyone else believe in it? Because confidence isn't about being the loudest person in the room. It's about knowing without a doubt that you bring something valuable, something unique, something that no one else brings to that position, to that equation. So I want you to think about a simple exercise. We're gonna write down several things, 3 things, 1 to 3 things that come to mind that you have actually done that made an impact at your job. Maybe you streamlined a process, maybe you solved a problem that no one else could solve, maybe you took on responsibilities that weren't even in your job description. Whatever it is, I want you to own it 100%. Because when you start seeing your own value, when you start showing up differently, people will begin to notice. The right people will begin to notice. Here's another truth. Promotions don't just go to the hardest workers, the person putting in the most time and effort. They go to the ones who actually ask for them. So if you've ever— if you've never had a direct conversation with your supervisor, your your manager, your boss, your director about where you see yourself in the company, then you are waiting for permission that will never come. So today, tomorrow, next week, set up a meeting. Say, "Hey, I'm ready for the next step. What would it take for me to get there?" That alone will set you apart from 90% of the people who are afraid to ask for and advocate for what they want. This is where everything changes. So we stop waiting for a promotion and we start acting like the person who already has it, the person who deserves it already? How would you show up if you already had the job that you wanted? Would you speak with more confidence? Would you take more initiative? Would you lead instead of follow? Would you lead more conversations? Start doing those things now, because the truth is, people will start treating you based on how you carry yourself. And if you start acting like the leader, they will start seeing you as one. And that's exactly what happened to my client, Gina. You see, Gina stopped waiting. She stepped up, she owned her value, and within 90 days of working with me, she got the promotion and the major pay increase that she was wanting. Nothing else changed except how she showed up with certainty and with confidence. So now the question is, are you ready to show up differently? Are you ready to stop waiting and start positioning yourself and for what you actually want? If this video clicked for you, I want you to drop me a high five in the comments and hit that like button. I'll see you on the next video.
