The excerpt is a single-speaker motivational/personal-development monologue (labelled SPEAKER A) in English that encourages listeners to acknowledge and voice their true desires rather than consistently self-sacrificing. Can I tell you something? Most people that I talk to almost always know what they actually want. They just don't trust themselves enough to actually admit what they want. Even when I'm working with someone, when it's like, you know, I'll ask them what they want and they're like, "I don't know." And then I'll ask a few more questions and they're like, "Well, honestly, you know, if it were up to me." I'm like, "But it is up to you." So once that realization hits that, you know, it is up to them and then out comes the answer. Without thinking about, well, what does my spouse want? You know, what about the kids? Then once they actually say what they want, it's like they immediately get this feeling of they're selfish, they're being selfish, and who are they to want, you know, what they want? And so they put their ideas and their actual desires and wants on the back burner. I think this happens because somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned that if we sacrifice what we really want and put others before us, that's the way to go. And even if we get over the selfishness and we're like, okay, this is what I really want, but then they talk themselves out of it. And it's like, well, what about this? What about that? You know? And it's like fighting for the limitations of this desire, this dream. And if you ask me, I think people need to be more selfish. I know that sounds funny coming from me, but I think people need to be more selfish because I believe that when you get your desires, when you get the things that you want in life, then you can fill your cup and your cup is just way more full So then you're able to pour into others. So I want you to start noticing how many times, like, you're hanging out with people and you know they know what they want, but they beat around the bush and hem and haw. So I wish most of us would get to a point— as a matter of fact, I wish all of us would get to a point where we're just saying what we really want to say about our true desires.
