I Crashed A $100k Car For An Ad

Tanner Smith and his crew film short-form ads for home-service businesses using iPhone dash-cam footage and viral transition tricks like truck flips and match cuts. They've tested roughly 1,000 creatives and found these hooks consistently drive down cost-per-appointment while keeping production scrappy and cheap.

I know you guys have all been wondering, and the answer to the question is yes, I do my own stunts. It's on dash cam, bro!
Dude, dude, dude, are you okay? Tanner Smith just came to my desk and he said, uh, we're gonna film a bunch of stuff. So we're gonna film things on the big camera and then afterwards we are going to film things on the phone. Let's take a look at it. So we got a Paragon long-form video, we're gonna do the website video, and then we're just doing this one. So I need to load this up on the teleprompter. And then this one right here, these are a whole bunch of social medias. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We gotta do 9. So I got most of everything ready to go. Now we're just getting this camera set up in Tanner Smith's office because he's got a really cool office. We're gonna use it as a background. Cue cinematic setup sequence. You know, it breaks my heart, but I hate TikTok, but it pays the bills, am I right? But people, people will watch phone footage and they'll be like, oh, this is authentic. That's the authenticity. When you have like all these lights and cameras and stuff, especially when it comes to ads, people think, okay, this was heavily produced. There was a lot of minds behind it, and this was curated and crafted to sell you something. No one likes to be sold. No one likes to hear a door-to-door salesman knocking at your door. So pretty much social media has like the same thing. Rather than it being on your front door, it's on your iPhone. So the reason we're shooting on an iPhone is because it adds to that level of authenticity. That people love to see and engage with?
There's a phrase I like. It says, "People hate to feel like they're being sold to." And there's a lot of people that like wanna block ads, right? They hate being sold to, they wanna pay premium subscriptions to block all of the ads. They hate ads. But what people do love is they love relevant pieces of content. So why not just make your ads relevant pieces of content to their needs and wants, solving pains and problems, and bam, guess what? People won't scroll, they won't be ticked off with your ad, they'll actually love it and appreciate it. So that's also a nugget. Okay. Hey, we'll see if we can do this in one take. Let's see how it goes.
Nice. Okay. And lighting looks interesting. I'm just gonna pivot this.
Okay. We can also, if we need to open up the window, we can. Does that look good? Or am I too, am I too like, I can't look like a vampire, bro. Can't have me looking like Edward.
All right, you guys be the judge of that. Yeah.
You're like, ain't nothing I can do about that, homie. Hit the tanning beds. Yeah.
Okay, we're recording, we're rolling. Cool. And, uh, ready to rock whenever you are.
Cool. Replacing the windows in your home isn't a small thing. It's a real investment. It's disruptive. And there are a ton of guys out there claiming they can all do a great job. So we totally understand. The hardest part usually isn't picking windows. It's figuring out who can actually do it the right time. Let me go back up. It's figuring out who can do— excuse me. It's figuring out who can actually trust Oh, okay. Not one take. Dang it. I made it. I made it like 3 sentences in. It's figuring out who you can actually trust to do it right. That's exactly why we started Paragon Windows. A project like this should be done carefully, honestly, and right the first time. And that's not always what homeowners get. So here's what you can expect when you decide to work with us. Number 1, quality.
Nice.
All right.
That was it. Okay.
It's a wrap. Let me go change back into my shirt. Cool. So I don't know why, but this type of, uh, ad angle, ad concept, if you will, that we're about to create, they perform so well. Like we've tested, I think probably close to 1,000 different ad creatives for Syndicate over the last couple of years. And you know, we're not spending a ton of money. We're spending typically between $1,000 and $2,000 a day on ads. Tanner Smith, um, for our own agency, Legion. But like, we keep going back to these viral transitions because they just get the lowest cost per appointment. They're the most scalable, and honestly, they're pretty easy to do. We have kind of this body component that has just performed super well for us, you know, uh, for the last year. And so what we'll do is we're actually just changing the hook and kind of the outro, and we call it the meat and potatoes. That body section, we'll just kind of put that meat and potato section in. Now I know this is crazy, this goes completely counterintuitive to what the Meta Andromeda update would tell you, where they're like, hey, tons of different types of ad creatives, tons of different angles, which we do as well. But once again, I mean, the viral transitions just perform and just work well. So here we go, Carson. Um, the first one is this construction fall hook. Bam, meat and potatoes, outro, right? So we can jumping down, like, we can go match cut. Yeah, match cut. So, so you see right here how he goes to the grass? I think what we could do is we just go find a patch of grass out in the parking lot or something, and it pans right back over to me, and I'm like— I was thinking we could like show my shoelace getting untied.
Oh, what?
Oh no, bro, it's all on dash cam, bro. No, don't do it, bro. Oh no. We could basically take the second POV as you in my car and I'm acting it out. Yeah. And then what happens is we'll jump cut to me like getting out right here of my car. And then what will happen is it will then show a second angle of me getting out of my car and it just shows my face.
Yeah.
And I'll be like, oh no, what does the guy think he's doing, blah blah blah. He's like, back it up, I'm about to stand on some business. So I get out of the car all like pissed off, right? And then you shoot me getting out out of the car and then it's like, you're just following me, it's like I'm yelling at somebody. It's like, hey, I'm talking to you! And then it's like, if you're so sick and tired of getting crap leads in your current agency, it's like, then do something about it! And I go back to the camera, right? And I says, check it out what it looks like when you work with Syndicate Marketing instead. And then it's meat and potatoes.
Gotcha.
So basically it's just one second. So it just like spins and then it just shows me and like a pebble hit my face or something. Like, if I could get right in that same position right here, he's going down the slide, he's like, kinda one hand on the ground, and it, like, we start right there and then like, I jump back up to the camera, right? Like I jump back up on it. So just transition, but what I was thinking we could do is it just cuts right there, the second it cuts, maybe you flip the camera upside down and it's like me, I go like, ahh! So I did with the truck flip is we get in my car and we film like my face front on and it like, I don't know how we would like just make it look like, make it look like, make it look like I'm in it. And so it's got the split screen.
I feel like we could, can we, could probably honestly do that in the Shelby. If we get like a light, put on a C-stand and spin it, it'll look like you're actually rotating.
Oh, even better.
Yeah. So, and that would be really easy because we could just film it right there.
That'd be sick.
So let's do that.
Okay. So great. When you say set up a C-stand, rotate the phone, Shelby. This should be the hardest one to do.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I think what, let's do all the easy ones first and work our way up. Um, I would suggest all the CTAs are different. Let's just do all the CTAs because I mean, we don't have to like go outside or on a field trip for any of those because you're already in the office, right?
Yeah. But truck flip hook, for example, will probably be out front.
Cool.
Like, let's just, let's just take it one at a time and then we'll shoot it all in one fell swoop.
So basically Tanner just walked me through all these different ads that he wants to film. They're all just transitional hooks. We already have the meat and potatoes filmed, meaning the body of the video. So now we're just amping up each video, making it a little bit different by adding different videos or bumpers, I like to call them, in the very beginning. So we walk through all the bumpers and the first one we're going to do is this one.
I'm kind of at an angle, right?
Like you're—
something like that.
Yeah. Let me— I'll tell you where to stand.
Okay. Okay. All right. Is your marking falling flat?
Turn your body just a little bit to the left. Yep, exactly. And then your left arm out, and then your other arm is just kind of up above your head a little bit, but your hand is like right— yep, exactly. And then you're literally just gonna like jump down. Okay, ready? Yep. 3, 2—
is your marketing falling flat? Check out what it looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing. So the transition has to be the opposite. It's not an up transition, for the meat and potatoes.
Do you want to do like a swipe or—
I think it needs to be a swipe, but can we— can we— is that transition okay with the existing meat and potatoes we have?
That is a good question. What was the other swipe? Was it a side swipe?
It's always— it's always been a side swipe.
Is it swipe to the left or to the right? Can we watch something?
Yeah, check out what we've been able to do with some of our clients. $85 grand spent, $636,000.
Cool. Swipe to the Right now we have the answer. Swipe right whenever you're ready.
Marketing falling flat? Check out what it looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing. I want to do— I want to do a secondary. If you're a home service business owner and tired of your marketing falling flat, check out what it looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing. So Carson, you feel like you always have to put your body on the line for these?
Me?
No, no. Carson doesn't have to put his body in the line. I have to put my body in the line, dude. I've done some crazy stuff over the last couple years shooting these Transitional hooks. I mean, I've jumped off of a— I've jumped off of a staircase. I like did a backflip on a curb out here. Did some crazy stuff.
We need a stunt coordinator.
We do. Stuntman. I do my own stunts. Okay, so do you think this patch of grass right here is big enough? We have this patch of grass too.
Yeah, let's film it close. Let's go right to the Syndicate sign. Okay, you know how it like goes down for a second and it points at the grass?
Yeah.
I'm thinking that'll be the hook where it'll start like this and I'll run up to you and be like, dude, are you okay?
Yeah, that's great. Oh, that's so good. Dude, dude, are you okay? Life's too short to have a clown or a POS agency running your ads. Here's what it looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing.
That looks so dumb doing that.
It'll look, it looks really cool. You or me?
That's CTA. Did you want to do the second alternate?
Yeah, let's do it. As a home service business owner, you can't have a bad marketer in the driver's seat. Got it. Dude, dude, dude, are you okay? As a home service business owner, you can't have a bad marketer in the driver's seat. Here's what it looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing.

3:09, dude, we're doing great.
Okay.
Okay, this is the dash cam one. We should do the dash cam and the truck flip the same, at the same time.
We gotta find a tiny little, here we go. Tiny little rock.
Okay, sick, dude.
Should we go inside for this one?
On the couch would probably be good. Okay, cool. A little change of scenery.
Yeah. So what we could do is we could do one shot where I'm playing and I'm like, and that's when you're going to be over here and I'll actually deliver my message. Gotcha. Kind of hit me in the eye. Not that hard. So freaking long. Get longer. Just throw it like, throw it like right here.
Yeah, yeah, I'll do like my back.
As a home service business owner, these tiny marketing results aren't going to cut it in this economy. Check out what it looks looks like to work with Syndicate Marketing. What about right here?

Okay.
And let's just try to get like my hands out of frame like this. I'm just focusing my face like— Just rotate the camera around. So hold it upside down.
Yeah, gotcha.
And then rotate it the other way.
So you're not actually upside down. Gotcha. Yeah.
Yeah. And then we just slide, right? That'd be a sick transition. Oh, we can do it right here. Do it right here. Right here. Um, and then we'll do the Bad Marketing Kicks You Right Where It Counts. If you don't need to change, kind of— Bad Marketing Kicks You Right Where It Counts.
Go like this? Yeah. Maybe you hold your breath for like 5 seconds and I'll just record whenever you're ready. There you go. A little bit closer. Little bit closer. There you go. Okay. And I'm rolling whenever you're ready.

Okay, so, you know, one of the things I hear from a lot of business owners, like, I don't like to get on camera, I don't want to shoot, I feel uncomfortable. Well, do you want to make money? Because listen, that's one of the only barriers to entry right now in business in 2026. You're going to look stupid. You're going to feel stupid. How stupid do I look and feel laying out on the grass outside or over here in the building when everyone else is looking at me. I do not give a crap, nor do I care, because guess what? I realize that this is something that every business needs and requires. So you don't have to feel comfortable on camera, but you do have to get on camera. Are we doing the Shelby first?
No, I was just getting this set up while you were talking. We do that one first, come in, and then we just have this one ready.
Okay, sweet dude.
I'm currently setting up the rig, doing some grip work, trying to get this light mounted upright, and then we're going to spin it that way the light is oriented from top and then spins to the bottom. This will simulate and create the illusion that someone else's— the car is flipping. It's a little bit unnatural for the sun to spin around you, so your brain automatically thinks, oh, they're spinning.
Interesting. And that's why we pay him the big bucks, because I have no clue what he's doing right now. Bruce, do you know what he's doing? I know what he's doing. Okay.
I know that he's like taking all this stuff, gonna make it look awesome. Yeah.
And put it in that car. It's gonna be sweet. I can't wait, I can't wait for this ad. I think it's gonna be creative.
This is what we're gonna do.
Okay, let's see it.
Just go like this. Okay. Screw a C-stand.
Yeah.
It's not working.
Okay.
This is safe.
Okay, here we go. That's safe. That's safe.
Yeah.
I'd love to tell Benson, hey dude, so, Good news, bad news. We got a good ad. Bad news is, is the windshield got cracked. Do you want to come and shoot this with me? You might want to scoot that back. Oh, it's hot. Oh, it's hot. I guess you don't have to be in it. No. It recording? Just stay right here in the passenger seat with me.
Do you want me to react with you?
Yeah. Close the door.
Yep. Here's your phone.
So Bruce, I don't know if— is, is the mic connected?
He's got no ears on us.
You've got no ears on us. You're just going to record some stuff. Okay, okay, sweet. Cool. Okay, so, um, the video— we'll just go over here to this side of the parking lot. Dude, it is so freaking hot in here. So one bad thing about having a black car with black interior.
Just gets freaking—
just gets absolutely baked in the summertime. Like, this is actually good right here, right?
Yeah, this is recording right now.
Okay, so let's go watch this video. Is this picking up the audio too?
The mic's recording internally, so we got audio.
So, okay, but if I play it through my speakers, it's going to pick that up. Okay, so we don't want to do that.
So it's just the first one is just like driving, like, what's this guy doing? Stop really quickly and then be like, no, no, no, dash cam, and then get out.
Okay, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
What's this guy doing?
What's this guy doing, man? Whoa, back up, back up!
It's on dash cam!
It's on dash cam, bro! I got you on dash cam!
What?
Oh, that's it, that's it, that's it!
Holy dude, that's so dumb!
Hey, it's on dash cam, dude! It's on dash cam, bro! Oh, oh, okay, all right, all right!
Nice, dude. Okay, one of those is great. One of those is great. Okay, now we just need to do a stitch cut of you coming out of the car, right? Yeah, you should park right next to the Syndicate sign if there's a stall open over there. Do you want to do that? Let's try it. Poor Bruce, we gotta leave him. Let's pick him up really quick.
You can walk over there.
Sorry, Bruce.
Hey, you walk over there.
Sorry, Bruce.
Like, just get the side of my face like I'm yelling at somebody in their face. Gotcha. That's it. Dude, what's your problem? If you're so sick and tired of getting crappy results, your agency sucks, do something about it. You should hire Syndicate Marketing. Was that a good reaction?
It sounded like you— your reaction was great, but your lines, I think you kind of fumbled them a little bit.
Let's do it one more time.
Do you want to see the script first?
It's— I kind of know what I want to say. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's your problem, dude? If you're so frustrated with your agency results and your marketing sucks, then do something about it. Should hire Syndicate Marketing. Is that good?

Shelby time. Okay, I'll meet you inside.
Meet me inside. All right. There's only one rule that matters in this scenario, and that's don't let go of the light. Oh, I guess also don't hit the— don't hit the car. Just go— how many of these like flips are we gonna do? I'm just gonna be like, oh, just keep going. Okay. All right. Okay.
Let's go like this.
Uh, I think it turned off. Oh, it's so bright, I can't see myself in camera anymore.
Oh, uh, she— the red, red light's blinking. It's just doing that to save battery.
Okay, so it's been recording the whole time?
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, you want to do it one more time?
Yeah.
Okay, have it be like— well, I go huge in the air, like have it be kind of slow, and then speed it up, and then we'll just go crazy. Okay, that way it's going to simulate like the speed of me taking off, hitting the ramp, going up in the air to the side, and then coming down, and then I'll just go crazy with it.
Okay, sounds good.
Okay. Tired of getting taken for a wild ride with your marketing? Click the link below to see exactly what it looks like to work with us. Do it one more time. I need to do another different, uh, CTA here.
