How to cut a Deep Side Part Sew in

LaToya Kelly shows how to create a deep side-part sew-in using minimal knotting to prevent unraveling. The process takes about two hours total: one to braid, one to sew. She uses a flat iron at 450-455°F with ceramic plates and blends the weave carefully with natural hair.

Hey everyone, it's your girl TT Does It All, and I'm showing you a little bit of my work. This is a deep side part sew-in, and then this is a lace frontal, just showing you a little bit of my work and that I do good work and I have credibility, just in case you've never seen any of my videos. But this is the client that we'll be working on. In the end, I'll show you me styling her hair as well as cutting and some tips for cutting the deep side part, because there are some things that you want to take into consideration if you want to perfect this style. So I have different videos. I have a video showing how I stitch a deep side part sew-in, which I call my SSS, my Sexy Signature Swoop, because yes, you flip that bang and it's just a sexy hairstyle to me. So that is my Sexy Signature Swoop sew-in. I do have the video showing step by step how I stitch, why I start the first track where I started,, and everything else, how I curl it. I even show a video on how I lay the edges, how I blend their hair with the extensions. And please, you guys, just check my videos. I promise you I do have videos answering most of your questions. But if I don't, don't be afraid to drop a comment below. I do read the comments. And, um, this is the client we'll be working on today as far as the cutting. I have one more row to stitch, and I decided to go ahead and start recording now. And, um, the last client, she was using my hair, which is Brazilian deep wave, and it is so easy to curl. The curls do not fall until about a week later, and they are still curled. So excuse my snapping at my dog. You guys know if you watch my videos, I have a dog named Harley, and he loves to move and roam around while I'm recording, and I don't like him tap dancing in my background. That's why I don't have music. If I wanted music, I'd play music. But anywho, oh, there it is, anywho. Oh my God, and I found out it's anywho, it's not anyhow or whatever, but whatever, who cares. So I'm gonna show me stitching. I have heard in my comments, I've read in my comments that you don't stitch in, oh, you only knot it in the beginning and the end. How's your customer sewing not falling out? I don't know, but All of my customers can look at this video and comment below. Their sew-ins last until they take them out. They do not fall out, they do not unravel, thread is not getting caught in their comb. So it is just a science to it that I have figured out. It is not a necessity to knot every loop you thread. It's a waste of your time, and clearly it is because I've— I have clients who Literally, their sewing does not come out until they cut it out, um, and it's very easy to take out, and I'll do a video on that next. So back to this video, I'm at the end. You see, I'm just going in and out, in and out. I'm going around the track, and now I'm going through the track since I'm about to cut that last piece off and also cut that last thread. But that is the only time when I'm running out of thread or I'm running out of space on the track. That is the only time I, I knot the thread. I don't stop and knot. And my sew-ins take about 2 hours— an hour to braid, an hour to sew— and that's max. And that is also without styling. But, um, so now I'm going to show you my styling process. People ask all the time, what kind of flat iron do you use? What heat do I use? I get a flat iron that goes up to 450. There are some that even go up to 455, which is great for me because I like to work faster. And the higher the heat, the faster you can slide down this curl and get a nice tight curl out of it. It doesn't matter what flat iron you use. I prefer not to use a titanium plate unless it has been used over and over and over again. Then it has more of a— it has more— I know this is kind of gross, but the titanium, after so long, it just has this buildup on it, and it gets the texture better to me. To me, textured hair works better with ceramic plates. That is me. I have only been doing hair since I was about 12 years old and I'm 28. So, you know, there's just from somebody who really don't know what she's talking about, you know what I'm saying? Okay, but, um, you know, a lot of people on my comments say you don't know what you're doing, you don't know what you're talking about. But this is from me, this is what works for me, so to each his own. So it doesn't matter what flat iron you use, the size of your flat iron matters as far as what type of curls you want to get out of. That flat iron. But the flat iron itself, this flat iron is called You Smooth Something. I'm using it from another stylist because I left my bigger flat iron at home, and I literally can use any flat iron that goes to 450. It doesn't matter at all. It doesn't have to be cheap. I love BaByliss, but it doesn't have to be BaByliss. Um, BaByliss is just— I don't know, I like their flat irons. I like the look of them, and I like that Um, they're just— they come in every size, especially the Baby Nano. Like, that is my favorite. But I am rambling. Let's get back to this. I curl each side away from their face. I do have a styling one-on-one video where I do indicate that to me it is important to see that the curls are going away from their face. This doesn't take away from their natural beauty, but the curls flow out of their face on the left and it flows out of their face on the right, and they're just pretty, and it makes sense to me. So again, to each his own. If you want to curl towards their face on one side and away from their face on the other, go for it. So here I am just straightening the roots because in the back of their hair, you don't want to start the curl all the way up at their root. Save yourself some time and go toward mid-shaft down to the ends. And if you all have been in cosmetology school, that is just something, a terminology that they use, mid-shaft of the hair strand to the end, as far as certain type of color. So sorry I used that, but anywho, save yourself some time when straightening the, the bottom of the back of the hair and start halfway down the hair strand all the way down to the end because the top half will not be seen and it will fall quicker anyway. Uh, what else do I want to— I don't know, my videos are always so informative. I make sure I don't play music so you guys can hear every word I'm saying, and I want to make sure that you guys get answers to all the questions you've asked. Um, let's see, I'm in St. Louis right now. I am open for appointments. I will be in South Carolina in the up-and-coming months, and I will also be in Kansas City. So if you guys are any way or anywhere near those areas please hit me up. My website, ctdoesitall.com. Harley, can you sit down? Hey, go sit down. Go. Okay, and Harley wants to tap dance in the background, and my tripod wants to fall on my client's head. This is just not a good day for me. It is for my client though. Wait till you guys see the end result. She absolutely loved it. So let's fast forward. Another thing a lot of people have a question about with my videos is heat damage. Please go to my website, TTDoesItAll.com, and read my blog. I will put a direct link to the blog, why I don't believe in products, heat protectants, and all that crap. So read that, please. But here I am going to show what— there, it's very important. I have already flat ironed her natural part leave-out and And now I'm going to cut, but this is what it will look like if you do not use good cutting shears. Do you see that I cut like 4 strands of hair? No, you don't even see that because the shears barely cut. So I'm going to show you one more time. Look how it snags. It's pulling my client's hair. So this is very important. It is just not cutting much, no matter how much you comb. It's just terrible. And I like to use cutting shears versus a, a razor comb because a razor comb will leave your bangs looking like who did it and what for if you look to straighten your hair out. So yes, her hair is curled and looks good now, but when she straightens her hair out, she's going to have random strands of long pieces of hair and it doesn't look good straightened. So each client's different. Each client's natural hair that's left out is a different length. So with this client, I couldn't cut her bang too short and do too many layers because her natural leave-out is longer than she will probably want it cut. So I just left her— the start of her layers is just at where her natural hair length stops. So that's why her bang is a little bit longer than I would traditionally cut it. But— oh, cut it, cut it. Okay, no. Anyway, anyway, um, she loves her hair. I haven't put any hairspray until now, and I also have not done anything to her edges until now. But I like to style the weave first, blend her hair in with that styled weave second, spray her hair down, which I use the Got2b Glued, um, hairspray. Whatever hairspray you prefer, to each his own. Again, it is all about your personal preference. I don't charge a thing, but I do have it open for donations at the link in the description. So please go ahead and link, um, or please go ahead and click on that link. Any penny counts. I am not picky, nor am I asking for anything.
