How to:Janet Collection Havana Mambo Faux Locs Crochet Braids Review/Tutorial

In this YouTube tutorial, LaToya Kelly (TT Does It All) demonstrates her first attempt at installing crochet faux locs on her sister’s hair. She explains why she chose crochet over a sew‑in, outlines the materials (specific hair extensions, edge control, KeraCare, latch hook), and details how she prepared the foundation by braiding with extensions to protect the natural hair and achieve a full look, using smaller braids in the front and looser spacing in the back. Kelly narrates the challenges she faced—figuring out the latch‑hook technique, managing hair pack quantities, and keeping the crochet loops open—while referencing the instructional channel Beauty Can Braid. She describes the process timeline (about two hours, longer than the one‑hour benchmark), the color choices (two tones, specific pack numbers), and the final aesthetic result, inviting viewer feedback. Throughout, she shares business information (locations in St. Louis, Kansas City, Seattle; website TTdoesitall.com; booking details), personal anecdotes (a late friend who taught yarn braids, her own iPhone/Apple Watch usage), and promotional calls to action (subscribe, upcoming giveaways, future videos). The video blends practical hair‑styling instruction with personal storytelling and marketing outreach.

Hey everyone, it's your girl TT Does It All, and this is something new for you. I have never in my life done crochet faux locs, but I have done them and they came out so good, and I am so excited to share with you all the process because it was a process. But the link is in the description to what type of hair this is. Um, I am using edge control on her edges, and I use KeraCare. If you all want a picture in the description of that, that is in video of things that I use, um, and I'll put that link in the description as well. But this is my big sister. As you all may know, I started out doing her hair and she lets me practice. So she actually came for a sew-in and I decided that I wanted to do something different today and I wanted to try crochet. And again, I have never done crochet and it seemed pretty easy, but Yeah, I gave it a try. So I know that the outcome that I wanted, I wanted it to look like they were individual, um, locs. I did not want them to look like crochet. I did not want you to be able to tell that they were crochet. So I decided that this was about the size that I want them to, to be parted. Um, so I just did my straight back braids I made the braids on the front section of her head a lot smaller than the braids in the back because, as you all may know, with crochets in the back, it's not as full as the front. I did want to make sure that the full was nice, the front was nice and full, but the back, you know, you can kind of space them out a little bit more because the back doesn't show as much as the front. She wasn't trying to wear them up in a ponytail or anything, so This is the braid that I did, and, um, excuse me, I use extensions in all of the front of the braids because I want my foundation to be sturdy. I don't want to have to crochet into thin her, her edges, and I don't want to thin them out. I don't want a lot of tension on her natural hair, so, um, adding the braiding hair in allows less tension to be on her edges, and it adds a stronger foundation. And I do the same thing with my sew-ins. So if you all need to see those, here's a few pictures in the bottom left corner. But as you all know, I do use braids in— or braiding hair in all of my anchor braids and my sew-ins because of course I want it to be sturdy. By the way, everyone always asks, where are you located? I am— home is St. Louis, Missouri. I travel to Kansas City, Missouri for clients, and I also travel to Seattle and I do clients there. So that's to answer you all's question. Um, at this current time I'm in Kansas City, and, um, this time next week I will be in Seattle. So, um, my website's TTdoesitall.com. That has all of my information as to how to get in touch with me, how to book an appointment for new clients and returning clients, and my phone number as well. So the description has pretty much everything you need, um, as far as how to get in touch with me, how to write me, or any other questions. But, um, I was so excited because this was my first time. I knew I could do it. I know how I want my hair to look, and I don't know if you all have seen like the, um, the yarn braids, but I will go ahead and show you those yarn braids. My friend did them on my head, and unfortunately she passed away last year, but, um, she was one of the best braiders I've ever seen in my life, and she did my hair a couple times. And, um, the, the difference between these and the yarn— the yarn braids do not have a shine to them. But I will show you those pictures here. And those were actually individuals, so those were not crochet. She actually braided my hair and then wrapped the yarn around them, and those took a very long time. Um, the crochet version of these that are a lot more shiny, um, are to me a faster way to get a similar look. Um, I don't think crochet lasts as long as the individuals.. But I do think the crochet that are already come— that already come as dreads, I think that they do— the hair itself lasts longer. But yeah, I love this. The outcome was so, so, so pretty. My sister actually allowed me in cosmetology school to chop all of her hair off last year, and she's grown back over the year. And this is her length over the year. We've just done sew-ins, and like I said, today I just wanted to try the crochet. But in the back, I'm doing no particular pattern. I learned how to do this from watching Beauty Can Braid, and as you all know, she is the shiznay. So yeah, watch me work. So her hair is extremely thick, and in the middle it's even worse, so I kind of use my Denman brush and my flat iron and straightened it out a little bit just to make it faster to braid. But it went so much faster once it was straighter, and she's kind of laughing at me because she realized how long it was taking me with it being so thick and the curls being so tight. But I am zooming through these braids because I'm sure you all don't have to see me braid in actual speed. But, um, let me tell you how hard it was to figure out how to hook this mess onto these braids. So first of all, I'm like fumbling around. I actually forgot to press record during the first like 4 braids, but I was like struggling, like struggle mode to 10. I mean, I couldn't figure out how to like, do I hook the latch hook on her hair and then hook it on the hair? And then like, I just couldn't figure it out. So I was like, hey, I need you to pull up one of those Beauty Can Braid videos and let me look at it for a second because I don't know how the heck to do this. So I just washed one really quick because I was really in a rush to just do it, but with these, I noticed that it was kind of hard to keep the loop like open. So the, the hair comes like on this little gold thing, and you have to keep track of where the opening is so that you can know where to put the latch hook through the actual extensions. So that was kind of difficult. I got to a point where I threw a couple of them and then I had to run and go pick them up because we needed them in the end. But we used 6 packs of hair on her head. We did 2 tones. And I started out with the front because I wanted to make sure that the front was full. The hair store was about to close. We actually had bought 4 packs and didn't realize we were going to need 2 more. So again, I didn't watch a Beauty Can Braid video before I did it. I watched it as I started. And, um, that's when I realized I was gonna need 2 more bags. So luckily they were still open, we got 2 more bags, and the look at the end was just completely flawless. But, um, yeah, I don't know, I love them so much. Hopefully I can do them the same on my head. I have a few, um, bags of extensions that I've purchased to do some crochet on my own hair, so I will be posting those videos. So don't forget to to subscribe because, um, turn on those notifications and you'll get the update as soon as I post them. Um, and these videos are going to be random. I'm not going to post on every Friday or certain days. I'm going to post as many videos as I can possibly upload because I am very fastly approaching 50,000 subscribers. And, um, if you're looking right now, if you look down, hopefully I'm well past 50,000. But as of today, which is Sunday, September 18th. It's 11:01 and I am currently just under 50,000 subscribers. So once I hit 50,000 subscribers, I am going to have so many videos just uploading back to back because we're doing TT Does It all week. Yes, we're doing TT Does It all week. I'm going live, I'm doing giveaways, I'm going to give away some crochet hair, I'm going to give away some extensions, I'm going to give away a sew-in or two. So my services will also be given to you guys. But yes, you guys, make sure you subscribe, you stay tuned, because that is coming up very soon. Excuse my shoulder in the way. I fastly had to switch positions with my camera, but yes, we are getting through the front. This took me 2 hours. Mind you, this is my first time ever doing this. I see on Beauty Can Braid, she actually says that it takes her 1 hour, so I am definitely going to work on my time. I think that if I didn't struggle in the beginning with how to figure out Also, we had to go to the hair store to get more hair. So I think that if we had— first of all, if I knew what the heck I was doing when I started, I think I would have finished in an hour. But yeah, this just— I was struggling. And then with the back, you guys will see that we did do two different colors. So I loved the outcome of these. I was so happy. But do not fast forward because I am going to talk every second of this just to entertain you all with my shenanigans. But yes, Okay, so, excuse me, I did have her handing me the hair at first. If you notice in the beginning of when I started crocheting them in, I had them in my hand each, and it's so much easier if she just hands them to me one by one because keeping all these in my hand and working is just not very efficient to my time. But yeah, I think I am almost to the back. You see that I'm halfway behind her head, and I only— we only got 2 of the 1. So she has the number 1 in the front, and we only got 2 packs of those. So the front of her hair took 2 packs of hair only, and the back we actually used 4. So I don't know if that's a lot or not. I don't know what you guys are used to seeing or what you all have used, or the next time if you do your hair what it would take. But my sister has a pretty average-sized head. It's not extra small, it's not extremely big. Love you. But it took us 6 bags of hair, and again, that is in the description. But I just keep playing around with it because I want to make sure that it's full going to the back again because I was afraid to run out of hair. By the way, you guys, Apple has just released the new iPhone 7, and they have also released an update to the Apple Watch. And as you all know, I've had mine for a little over a year now, and it's updated with the new software, and I love it even more now. So yes, I can actually write with my finger and type entire sentences on my watch, and I love it. As a hairstylist, being hands-on, not having to stop every 5 seconds to look at your phone, is a priority for me. So yes, I love my watch, and I do recommend it to all you hairstylists out there, and even like people who don't do hair. If you do something that's hands-on, I love my watch. All right, so we are still going, and I'm still kind of just pulling them back over just to make sure that we are full and everything from the front looks good. Um, so that's why I keep kind of pulling it back over, because I thought we were going to run out of hair, and I thought the hair store would be closed. But even you see, I'm still not done. I'm I have 2 bags left to put in, and I am still— she looks full because I made sure I started from the front, but I am still— we actually, again, we used, um, 4 of the lighter color, which was a 30. She says she usually uses 33, but they didn't have 33 at the store that we went to. But I will link this online. I actually have the same hair for myself that I'm going to try, and I will link the website. They are $11.99. And they are so worth it. But at this point, I am finished and I want you all to see the ending results and let me know what you all think. Do you, do you like them? Do you like the color combination? What would you do differently? I love them so much. I was so excited. She loved them. She was happy with the fact that we didn't do a sew-in like she initially asked for. But here's the finished look and let me know what you guys think. Seriously, thumbs up this video if you like them. I'm going to add my Snapchat video here to the end of this video just to show you all what I posted the exact day that I did it to my Snapchat. And yeah, hope you guys enjoy. So I wanted to practice doing dreads, and look who's practicing doing crochet. Yeah, Mom. Yeah. All crochet. TT does it all. Enjoyed this video, please subscribe. Don't forget to comment, rate, and share this video with fellow stylists or clients that you want to see my work.
