How to sew UNDER the braid (Sew in)

LaToya Kelly shows how to sew hair extensions under the braid instead of on top, which hides the track line and lets clients wear their hair down or in loose ponytails. Sewing under takes more effort but creates a flatter result that lasts months with proper stitching technique.

Hey everyone, this video is showing how to sew under the braid, and I'll also show in the end of this video why it is important in particular sew-ins to sew under the braid and it look very flat— and not look, it needs to be very flat. But I start on the corner that I'm going to start the hair on, and I have detailed videos on each and every one of my installs, so I show why I'm starting here in my side part sewing video, so be sure to check those out. But first, I stitch under the braid, and then the next one goes on top of the braid. So I'm showing this in real time, it's not fast forwarded or anything, so you guys just watch along, and then I will show that the next row I'm actually stitching on top of the braid that I just sewed. Under. And I'll show this sew-in and another sew-in as well, and that way you guys get a feel for multiple installs. The next one, the client actually left hair out around the edges, and to me, when you sew under the braid, when they lift their hair up, it shows less of a line as to where the sew-in starts and where their natural hair is ending. So for full sew-ins, the importance of sewing under the braid for it is at least you can do like a low high ponytail. Not a low high ponytail, but a lower ponytail. So you can do a loose ponytail and it just won't be obvious that the extensions are coming out of a braid. It's coming out of, you know, you can't see the tracks. So yeah, that is why it's important. I I actually made it a habit to do it on all clients the past year so that you kind of just get faster at it because it does take longer to start your stitching out underneath the braid and it's more tedious. So if you practice it on every client, after so long you'll be so used to it that it won't slow you down with your sewing at all. I don't use any special stitching technique because I learned the hard way. Um, when people do those stitch and lock stitching on your sew-in, like, it's impossible to take out. And I feel like if you stitch the normal way, in and out, in and out, as long as you make sure that none of the thread is loose, as long as you make sure that your ends are reinforced, as I do teach in how I stitch a frontal sew-in or a sew-in or how I fold over the tracks for a sew-in. It's very important that you follow those steps because my clients don't come back because their tracks are loose or thread is hanging or one of their tracks is coming out. They don't come back for that. And I travel, so imagine me going to Seattle doing hair, going to Kansas City, and my Seattle client's sew-in is falling out. Like, I don't have those problems and I can't have those problems because of traveling. So My stitching is not loose. My client at the longest has kept her sew-in in for 7 months, which I don't recommend, but that just goes to tell you that when I sew your hair in, it doesn't come out. It comes out when you cut it out, but it doesn't come out a moment sooner. So when it's time to take your hair down, you'll know because you're just tired of the new growth. You want a fresh sew-in. You won't know because your hair is falling out. So ladies, let me know what you all think. Would you prefer your stylist to sew underneath the first braid, or do you think it not matters. I want to know what you guys think, so make sure you thumbs up this video and drop your comments below. I'll see you in the next video. If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe.
