I Finally Did It + What's New with Me

LaToya Kelly cut off her two-year Sisterlocks after postpartum hair loss and uneven curls made them hard to maintain. She's dealing with postpartum depression, carpal tunnel, and rotator cuff pain, and is shifting her content back to YouTube hair reviews while planning to open a salon in Kansas City.

Hey everyone, it's your girl TT Does It All, and I'm back with something totally different. You see my hair? You see it? It's gone. And I'm going to show you me cutting it. I'm going to tell you why I cut it and everything. So this is about to be a long video. Sit tight because I'm going to talk to you about where I've been, what's been going on, Oh, why is my voice shaking? I don't know, but a lot has been going on, so, um, I just wanted to give you all a little bit of me. So watch the video, thumbs up right now if you think I look nice in this because this is a change, but thumbs up this video if you like this because this is where we're going and I'll tell you why. All right. Hey everybody, I hope you're doing good. We are going to rewind back to the beginning. This is before I started my Sisterlocks journey, so I'm going to take you all into my process. Um, this is about 4 months in the Sisterlocks. You see I didn't have a lot of growth, but it quickly came in. It filled out. Um, my hair just really started growing and it got so much fuller and it was just perfect. So you see the beginning in September of 2021. This is where I was. Shout out to my best friend Laura for recording because I was like, I have not seen the back of my hair too often. This is like a first for a while. So This was my first time kind of seeing what my hair grew to. So October 1st, I am 4 months postpartum, um, and I started having so many shed, so many locs come out. And this is when I had her braid it back, and it wasn't bad, but this must have been when it started going because that's like little bitty hairs you see. And then as it started growing out, I'm like, oh my God, this is a lot of hair. And more kept coming out. So on your left, you can see that I'm kind of showing you how thin these are, um, and just keep looking at it. You'll see like why I got rid of them, because they're hanging on by like a thread. Like one little hair is holding on to a whole loc, and I was just really tired of it. Also, when I started my Sisterlocks, I got this color done, um, maybe like 4 months previous to it. My hair was completely natural when I got the color, but the, um, color straightened out some of my hair. So, um, even with my curl pattern with getting the Sisterlocks, it was definitely not even. So the front would be like straight pieces and the back was like super curly and perfect. So I was already having like a little drawback with how my Sisterlocks looked, um, and then the major, major reason was I need to get back to my YouTube videos. It's time for me to start doing my hair reviews, wearing the wigs, being a model of my products, because, um You can't really be a walking billboard for yourself if you have Sisterlocks in and you do sew-ins. So I put 2 years into my Sisterlocks, okay? I got my money's worth, I got my time's worth for sitting there with it all, and it's time for them to go. So I cut my hair with a half-inch guard so that whatever new growth— and mind you, I hadn't had a a retighten since November. So this cut being in January was like 2 months growth. Dudes be like, bro, can you line me up real quick? Can you line me up? Now I've been talking about this for a while, but I did not know what I was going to do and how I was going to do it. But I knew once I saw it all black and cut off, that was not the finished look. So, um, I started having the postpartum hair loss maybe about 4 months after having my son. Um, so let's get back to, as I'm cutting this, what's been up with me, okay? Because yeah, I know you guys probably want to know, so I'm going to share it with you. Um, I got pregnant October 2020. Yeah, 2020. And, um, great pregnancy, no morning sickness, everything was perfect. Um, and then in March of 2021, I ended up having carpal tunnel. So I start— I had a rotator cuff injury, which, well, I guess you can't call it an injury because I wasn't injured. It just my rotator cuff just started giving me a lot of pain. And then my wrists, um, I had carpal tunnel in both wrists. So that started in March. So I had to take off from March to like after I had the baby. Um, my wrists were killing me. There was nothing I could do about it either. Um, after I had the baby, maybe 4 weeks after I had him, I did have injections in my wrists which definitely helped, and I haven't had pain again. Okay, look, look, cabbage. Don't judge me, y'all. I'm crazy, I know. So, um, after the carpal tunnel, had the baby, postpartum depression is real. Um, so let's just keep it real. You know, I don't really talk about personal stuff too much on my YouTube, but I definitely dealt with postpartum depression. Um, so now having my hair cut, I finally feel pretty again. Um, I just feel like I'm getting more to back to who I was. Um, so yeah, right now I'm just dealing with getting back into the groove of things. I ain't got no hair. I've never seen myself like this. So as you see, they're all gone, and this is what they look like. I should show y'all the ones that are hanging by a thread, like you can see it on the loc. But if you all know, like, people who, um, maybe if I could donate this hair, I will. I still have it in an airtight Ziploc bag. But I decided after 24 hours of having it cut black, um, I did not want black hair. I did want brown or whatever it is. I just did not want it. So luckily in my house I still had some bleach from what I use on my lace closures when I bleach the knots. So I just was like, I'm gonna use this. I still got some purple shampoo here too. So I used the bleach and the purple shampoo and just kind of watched it as it processed, and voilà, that's how we got to the finished product. And I didn't time it, I just was kind of looking at it as it went. As of today, in the beginning of the video what you saw, I did use some of my baby hair cream on my hair, and that maintained like the kind of texture that your hair gets when it's wet, and it held it tight. So my hair still looks curly, which I love. I didn't even know my baby hair cream would do something like this, but I figured, um, which is why I tried it, and it just came out perfect. So as the purple shampoo sits, which is kind of toning some of the bronze out of it, I am just gonna put on some— fill in my eyebrows a little bit and put on some lashes and just kind of see how I feel like I look. Because the black hair was not doing it, the sisterlocks were not doing it. And, uh, yeah, but, um, so yeah, dealing with just finding a balance between business, getting back into the groove of things childcare, finding enough hours in the day to still breastfeed while working on clients and keep up with my YouTube. It's time. I mean, it's time for me to keep my YouTube videos coming, and that's what I'm in the mode of now, whether it's on me or a client. Y'all drop a comment. Do y'all rather— would y'all rather see me— do y'all rather— would y'all rather see me do it on me or or do you like seeing reviews or videos on clients? Um, which one do you prefer? That's a good question because it's not really about me, it's about y'all. But I do have microblading done to my eyebrows, so I just kind of don't— I fill it in a little bit. I'll drop her information in the description. Oh yeah, there's so much stuff I have not talked about. Instagram took my TT Does It All page, so my new Instagram is The Real TT Does It All. Um, so YouTube took my page, I had a baby, dealing with postpartum hair loss and depression, um, being in a city where my mom and sisters are not, um, not having as much child care help as I would like to have, it's just all taking a toll. Um, and also business, it took a toll on my business as well, so I really need to work on building myself back up in St. Louis. And I'm gonna drop a major bomb— I'm opening the salon in Kansas City, point blank period. And that will not be the first, it will be the first of many. So, um, whatever you guys want to see the next video on, whether it's my plans, whether it's the hair review, whether it's a customer, whether it's whatever, just drop a comment and let me know what you all are interested in seeing. Oh, by the way, I stopped getting my lashes done. I stopped getting my hair done other than retightening. I stopped a lot of stuff. And strips, I'm just really not used to, but these kind of— they, they look really good. I'm thinking about— my friend might go into business selling them. So if you guys want the details, drop a comment and I will let you all know the eyelash, um, information. But yeah, this was it. Um, Let me know what you guys think of the color. I, I honestly am thinking about going red now, um, but I also want to be able to go in corporate America if I need to, not to work, but with my husband if I need to go to a work event with him. But, um, let me know what you guys think, what you want to see next, because back. All right, all right, I'll catch y'all in the comments in the next video.
