K Tip Extensions for Black Women (My First Time)

LaToya Kelly installs K-tip extensions for the first time after taking a course, walking through ordering hair, converting wefts to tips, dyeing them black, and dealing with adhesive failures. K-tip extensions cost $1,000 to $5,000 and last 4 to 6 months.

So I decided to take a course on K-tip extensions. I'm really in love with them, and lately they have just been blowing my mind. So here's my first model. I decided to get her texture of hair from my vendor, which took 3 weeks to get, and then they sent me the wrong hair. They sent me wefts instead of the K-tips, so I had to actually make them in the K-tips myself, which was crazy. And of course, in the course I took, they only taught pre-tipped extensions, which I did not have the luxury of doing. However, in 2015, in cosmetology school, I did what we call fusions back and, um, I guess this kind of set me up to where I kind of remember what I was doing, which it don't look like I knew what I was doing, but trust me, like, it was okay for the time being. And the lady loved her hair, God bless her heart. Anyway, I started really getting into the hang of doing them, and then I realized that my iron was no longer getting hot. Thank you, Amazon, for nothing. So I had to stop for the day and wrap it up and continue the next day. I had only got like 4 rows in, but I had to do what the pros do and show what it looked like when you pull it all up because that is so cute. That's what really— I'll be like, oh my God, this is like hair porn. Anyway, so I start getting into the hang of things. You see her shirt's different, so this is the next day, which the replacement iron went out, so I had to stop after this again. And then we decided that— well, I guess I decided that I wanted to dye her hair black because at the top of her hair it was getting really gray, so we wanted to blend it better, and I didn't want any problems with her having longevity out of her hair. So I decided we are going to dye these things black. Mind you, this is my first time doing this, so since 2015, which does not count. So after my training, this is my first time doing this. I get all these beautiful things in, and as you see, I stopped doing those rows. I really like to just freestyle my parts. I like it. I think it looks natural. Maybe for the back in the middle, the parts are really good, but this is before I am dyeing her hair, and I'm just showing what it looks like maybe a week later, and everything's still intact. And I'm just parting out her leave-out, and I'm gonna dye it, which became an— not an epic fail, but somewhat of a fail. But I want to share this with you because this happens in real life, and you need to see the real thing. So I started dyeing her hair, we transitioned to my shop, and that's when I started kind of combing through everything and sectioning out her leave-out so I can blow dry. And I noticed that I had a couple pieces that were like, no. And then as I dried, there were like 20 more pieces that said no. And I really think that I didn't use enough of the adhesive on them, but I replaced every single one that fell out. And then I began to style her hair, cut it into face framing and layers to blend with her hair. And I love the outcome, but I definitely learned a lot through my first model. So let me know what you guys think of the finished product. Have you tried them? Would you try them? These things run you about between $1,000 to $4,000 or $5,000 to have this installed. They typically last 4 to 6 months, longer depending on who does them and how much of a pro they are, which I do plan on becoming. Watch out! So drop a comment, let me know what you guys think. It really looks like a sew-in to me. The only difference is a lot— there's no braids, there's no thread. The versatility, you can really lift it up. This is my favorite part. But what do you guys think? Drop a comment, I'm waiting here for
