How to Use Facebook Custom Audiences The Right Way? - Hernan Vazquez

Hernan Vazquez explains three core Facebook Custom Audiences: website retargeting via pixel, email lists with advanced matching, and lookalike audiences to reach similar users. Combine lookalikes for awareness and retargeting for conversions to lower acquisition costs on lead magnets and webinars.

Would you like to know how to use Facebook custom audiences? Well, stay on this video because you're about to find out. Hey guys, what's up? Hernan Vasquez here and welcome to another video. A question that I got repeatedly over the past couple of weeks is, how do I use custom audiences the right way? Now for those of you that are just starting out within, you know, the world or the realm Facebook advertising, let me tell you something. You can target a specific set of people, and those are called custom audiences. You have a ton of different ways of targeting segments of people that are within Facebook, but the most powerful ways of targeting the people that you actually want to— that you actually want to communicate to is to create your own custom audiences. Now there's a bunch of ways and there's a bunch of different custom audiences that you can upload or that you can create. I would say the most traditional one or the standard one would be a retargeting list. This means basically that when you install the Facebook pixel, if you do not know how to do that, I'm gonna leave a link on the description below or above, wherever you're watching this video, so that you can check that video out, which is pretty Pretty damn cool how to install that pixel. And once you install that pixel, you will start cooking people. You know, you will start dropping a cookie and basically you're creating an email list without being emails. You know, you're creating your own audience, if you would. Now you can actually go into the Facebook panel and set up a custom audience based on people that visit your website. You know, that's like the most traditional one. You can always get more advanced in terms of you can target people that visit some pages and not others, or you can create custom audiences based on people that spend X amount of time within your website, but that's maybe for a more advanced video. So number 1, custom audience number 1 is to create people that have actually visited any page of your website and then you can start serving ads to them. Custom audience number 2 is one of my favourites. It's the email custom audience. You can upload your email list or your list of past purchasers, subscribers, etc., etc., and create a custom audience based on that. So the best way to do this would be to export from your email service provider, to export your email list and then upload it to Facebook. Facebook can now map a ton of different data. So at some point it was only emails, but now you can choose, you know, name, state, zip code, etc. This will allow Facebook to increase the matching for that particular people, for that particular person. So it's not only about the email, you know. Let's say that you have John Smith in your list that lives in, I don't know, in New York and has XYZ zip code and it's John first name last name Smith, okay, that's mapped out on the file that you upload. There's a big chance that Facebook will actually find that John Smith even if John Smith is not using the email that you are inputting into Facebook, okay. So the advanced matching plays a huge role when it comes to actually targeting the people that you want to target and from that list that you're getting because some people will subscribe to your website with one email and they will use Facebook with another email, which is completely fine, okay? So that's custom audience number 2. And custom audience number 3 is a custom audience that I use a lot, which is lookalike audiences. Now you have people visiting your website, you can create lookalike audiences from those people. What basically does Facebook is to go out there and find within the whole population within a country, the whole Facebook population within that country, people that are demographically similar to the people that visit your website, okay? So let's say that your demographic are males from 25 to 35, you know, that have, I don't know, executive jobs, okay? So that's your email list or that are the visitors of your website. The lookalike audiences will likely bring those kind of people. Okay, so you will be targeting from, you know, 100 or 200 people or even 1,000 people. You can expand that to a couple million people. That's the power of Facebook. And, you know, and a great lookalike audience that I really like doing is from past purchasers because you can have 500 past purchasers and then turn that into a couple million people that you could serve ads to. Okay, so those are basically the 3 kind of lookalike audiences. There are a bunch more audiences that people have engaged with your page, have liked, commented, or shared any material from your Facebook page, or even they have watched a video during X length, and those are great custom audiences as well. But to keep things super simple, you can retarget people, you can upload your email list into Facebook, and then you can create lookalike audiences from there. Now, how do you use them would be a question. Well, depending on your ad strategy is the way you want to use them. For example, let's say that you want to serve ads to people that do not know you and you want to share a piece of content, you know, blog, blog post, video, podcast episode, etc. What you want to do is to create a lookalike audience, for example, from your email subscribers and then serve ads to those people. To that lookalike audience, okay? That will give you a pretty big audience so that you can start creating awareness. Now since you have the pixel installed, you will have another custom audience which is retargeting custom audience, okay? People that have landed on any page of your website. And then you can actually grab that custom audience on the ad and serve them ads about a lead magnet, about an offer, about a webinar, whatever you wanna do. Okay, so basically you are combining them and they are synergistically working for you to get more leads at a lower price. Okay, I think, yeah, I'm gonna drop a link below on the description so that you can check the video that I made on how to get less than $1 per lead. All right guys, have in mind that you need to have some work previously and you need to have an aged Facebook account, etc., but you can still start working to get that as soon as possible. All right guys, so that's how to use lookalike audiences. If you have any questions whatsoever, just drop me a comment below, contact me on Facebook. I'm pretty active on the Facebook group that's also gonna be in the description below or above, wherever you're watching this video. And if you have any questions, you know I will be more than happy to answer them. Thank you once again for watching, guys, and I'll see you on the next video. Bye-bye.
