The Marketing Atlas Show - Episode 19

In this live‑stream episode of the Marketing Atlas Show, host Hernan Vazquez greets viewers, announces his recent feature in Yahoo Finance’s “10 Most Value‑Packed Courses to Crush Your Goals in 2020,” and promotes a limited‑time launch discount for his Perfect Ads Formula course (available at hernanvasquez.com/perfect for $27). He then answers a viewer’s question about his most challenging advertising campaigns. He recounts two pivotal experiences: (1) his first Facebook lead‑generation campaign for Semantic Mastery, where he learned Facebook ads from scratch and achieved $1‑$2 cost‑per‑lead using a lead‑magnet funnel; and (2) scaling Dan Henry’s $997 webinar campaign from a $10‑15K monthly ad spend to a peak of $150‑250K while maintaining profitability, a process that involved mentorship from high‑spending media buyers and refined naming and tracking systems. Throughout, he emphasizes curiosity as a critical mindset for media buyers and entrepreneurs, urging continuous learning and note‑taking. He closes by inviting the audience to submit more questions via marketingatlasshow.com, reminding them of the Perfect Ads discount, and wishing them a great week.

So with that being said, let me actually go and share my screen. So here we are. And, uh, and the question that I had from last week is from Arman. And he's always coming with the great questions, okay? And he's moving, so big shout out to my man, Arman. And he's saying, tell us about one of your most challenging campaigns and what you learned from it. And this is actually a great question. I love this question. And the first really, really challenging campaign that I had was my first campaign, okay? So I remember 2 really challenging campaigns that I had. The first one was my first campaign. And the first campaign that I ran for on Facebook ads was for Semantic Mastery. It was back in like, I don't know, 6 or 7 years ago. And what happened is that on that campaign, I had to generate leads for Semantic Mastery. We were growing a list, we were giving away a lead magnet, and it was an IFTTT SEO Academy related lead magnet that allowed people to actually put together recipes for SEO on IFTTT. And we had to, I had to learn pretty much Facebook ads from scratch, all right? And 6 years ago, or 7 years ago now, Facebook ads were not what they are right now, okay? You didn't have any support. I know that support right now, it's there. Like, you couldn't talk to a human being. They didn't have any support at all. And it was kind of, it was really, really scary, but it was a lot of fun. And we ended up having like great results with that lead magnet. We had like $2 or $1 leads or something crazy like that. Which is really hard to do right now in the business and advertising space, but back in the day it was possible and it was actually pretty cool. So what we did was, you know, to launch a lead magnet. So that was the first challenging campaign because I was starting from scratch. The second challenging campaign that I remember was when I started working with Dan Henry. So that was a great experience, but I've never really managed such a big campaign. This was like 3, 2 years ago, maybe 3 years ago. And I never really managed. Yeah, 3 years ago. Oh my God. Yeah, 3 years ago. That's crazy. Or 2 and a half. Well, something like that. You know, it's been a long time. But, you know, he had his campaign dialed in. He reached out to me because he was looking for somebody to run his Facebook ads. And I was working with my good friend PJ from Exotic Car Hacks and Watch Trading Academy and Secret Entourage. And I was working with him and I got referred to Dan and he really, really dialed that campaign in. He was crushing it with that campaign. It was a campaign for a webinar and he was selling a $997 product. He was doing really well, but he wanted to kind of step away from that campaign and let somebody else take over. So I did, I took over and it was really, really challenging because I never managed that big of a campaign. When I started managing the campaign, We were spending around $10,000 to $15,000 a month on advertising. And I scaled it all the way up to $150,000 a month. So I scaled it 10 times profitably, okay? All the way to profitability, $250,000 a month. That was our peak month, and then we had to dial it back down because we were cutting it really, really close when it comes to profit. So we decided to dial it back down, and we were casting along with $80,000 to $100,000 a month. Wow. For a long time. And that was a great learning experience. And I had the honor and the pleasure of working and learning from some of the media buyers that were running ads for Sam Ovens. So, you know, I had a couple calls with them. They showed me how they do stuff. They showed me, you know, their naming methodology and their tracking methodology and all of that. Those guys were spending $1 million a month. So, you know, they were balling. They were bosses. And I remember that I was having these conversations with them and they were like blowing my mind. I thought that I had my stuff together, but what I realized then is that there's always a new level of mastery that you can achieve, right? There's always a new level of understanding about the platform that you're running. There's always a new level of running with the ads or creating ads and whatnot. That's why I think that one of the best things that you can have as a media buyer, as a digital marketer, even as an entrepreneur in general, is to be curious, to be really, really curious about your campaigns, about your platforms, about pretty much everything you're doing. Because I thought that I was doing okay, but then I came across these monsters of media buying, and then they told me, hey, listen dude, you need to sit down and write and take notes. And it was pretty cool. It was pretty cool to see how they do stuff, and it was pretty cool to see all of that. And we were able to, thanks to the techniques that they showed me and some of the stuff that I was deploying, We were able to scale that campaign pretty, pretty quickly and pretty big. So those are the two campaigns that I remember that were really, really challenging. The first campaign that I launched was really challenging because I really didn't know what I was doing. I still don't, but you know, it's it. I can say that well, you know, I spent X amount of money, so now I kind of know that's a lie. I don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but but you know, the second campaign was like the it wasn't because of the technical aspect of the campaign because the campaign, the funnel was working. Everything was working, but it was the mindset thing. It was a breakthrough in terms of the mind. It was like, oh wow, this guy's spending X amount of money and making X amount of money back, right? And now I can manage hundreds of thousands of dollars of advertising every month without any problem, but at the point, it wasn't. You know, it was a brand new scale. I was thinking in other numbers, and I'm pretty sure, you know, people are watching this and saying, well, you know, that's cool, but that's cute. That's what we're spending a day, you know, on ads. And I'm like, okay, that's awesome. That's, you know, that's the next level. That's the thing that I want to be able to achieve because again, people are saying, well, you know, maybe you're spending $1,000 per day or maybe you're spending $100 or $10 per day and that's fine, right? When you go from $10 to $100, that's one big breakthrough. When you go to $100 to $1,000, when you go to, you know, $10,000 per day on advertising, that's another breakthrough that you need to have. And then some people are spending that per hour in advertising, and that's pretty cool. So there's always a new level of understanding about the platform that I think curiosity is a big driver when it comes to media buying, when it comes to entrepreneurship in general. So those are 2 experiences that I had that were pretty, pretty cool. All right, cool. Let's see if we have any more questions. I don't see that we have any more questions, but maybe I just need to wait for a little bit because these tends to, you know, to be a little bit of a delay. So there's definitely a delay there.
