Losing money on your first sale isn't a mistake if your upsells and backend offers recoup it within 30 days. The front-end product is just a customer acquisition tool. Judge the whole funnel, not individual transactions.

Most people see this and panic. They're selling a $5 product, paying $30 to get a buyer, and instantly think the funnel is broken. But that's usually the wrong way to look at it because the first sale is not the whole funnel. Yeah, maybe you lose money on the book by itself, but then come the order bumps, the upsells, and the backend offers. So now that buyer is worth way more than the first sale makes it seem. And that's the part most people miss. The goal is not to make all your money on the frontend. The goal is to get buyers in the door, recover your ad spend fast, and make the real profit after that. Because a low-ticket buyer today can become a much bigger buyer later. So stop looking at each sale in isolation. Ask whether the funnel can pay back ad spend within 30 days. If it can, you can scale. Break even on the front, profit on the back.
