The Big Problem With Loving Your Pet. And What To Do About It.

Dr. Kevin Toman outlines five strategies to extend your pet's life and health. Rapamycin can increase lifespan by 14 percent across species, a dietary change adds roughly 2.5 years, and a dental procedure under anesthesia can add over a year. He also recommends annual blood work and cancer screening for large-breed dogs, and warns that glucosamine supplements don't work.

Well, hey you guys, and welcome back to The Longevity Vet. I'm Dr. Kevin Toman Toman, and I'm glad you're here. Today I have some heartbreaking news for you. Every pet that you and I love with all our hearts will eventually die, whether it be a sphinx kitty, a mastiff, or the spoiled golden retriever named Annabelle who's currently biting my toes as I record this video. Every one of them will die, and I can't change that. But what I can darn sure change is when that takes place. Today I have 5 different ways to help increase your pet's lifespan and give you more quality time with the pets that you love. First off, prescription longevity drugs like Rapamycin, Acarbose, and Metformin. Rapamycin in particular has been shown to increase lifespan by up to 14% in every species studied to date. How does it do that? It reduces cancer risk, it reduces inflammation, it supports heart function, and it's being studied right now in two different veterinary schools here in the US for its benefits to cats with chronic kidney disease. So if you're looking for the basis of your longevity protocol for your pet, rapamycin, the prescription drug, is a great way to start. Moving right along, number 2 on the list is diet. What if I told you that there was a simple dietary change that you could make that would extend your pet's lifespan by up to 2.5 years? True, and I can help you. Moving right along from there, we have to involve your veterinarian in this. Why? Two different reasons. Number one is the fact that there is a simple veterinary procedure for kitties and small dogs that with a one-day stay in a vet clinic can add over a year to your pet's lifespan. It's just an anesthetic dental, and I can help you every step of the way with that. The other thing we need your veterinarian for is to act as a partner in diagnostic care, because every pet deserves a lab work, a blood work panel, and a urinalysis every year. And for large breed dogs, we should also consider the use of some of the newer liquid biopsies or early cancer detection tests that your veterinarian can help us with. All right, moving right along to number 4: supplements. Listen, everybody knows about glucosamine chondroitin, but did you know it doesn't work? I can prove that to you and offer you a supplement that does work to help support your pet's joint health. I can also help you with supplements that are proven to reduce cancer risk and proven to help reduce body weight by by decreasing blood sugar. These are things that hardly anybody else knows, and I'm here to help you with that. Finally, the last thing you should understand is that pet longevity begins at home, and I've covered this in a pretty— in a pre-existing video, but you should understand that if your pet is heavy or has arthritis, the last thing in the world you want them doing is running up and down a set of stairs all day long. The last thing you want to do is have them jumping into and out of a car or onto and off of furniture. I can help you with these things, and by keeping a pet more comfortable, you and I can absolutely add both miles and months to their lifespan. If these things matter to you, and they darn well should, please reach out to me at www.HelpingPetsLiveLonger.com. Let's get a consult set up that will enable us to talk about each one of these things specific detail for your pet. I will help you. We are all in this together. So thank you very much for hitting the Longevity Vet today, and have a great day.
