Vanessa Van Edwards shares tactics for handling people who intimidate you in conversation. The strategies include laughing it off, ignoring them, walking away, or giving a cold dismissal, all designed to defuse tension without escalating.
What should you do if someone tries to intimidate you in a conversation?
Oh, those people are disgusting.
They just like say something about you, like reveal some piece of information about you that they shouldn't know, or like they looked into you.
I think negging is a way that people can do this. I refuse to be negged. I do not like it when it happens to me. I've had that happen to me before. Oh, you're so much prettier than your picture. Or someone told me you're not as mean as you look. I usually laugh. Laughing is a defense mechanism but also brings oxygen to your body. So like, I don't want to go into fight or flight because of their comment. So usually I'll laugh and then I ignore them. I will do it where I'm like, you're not my person. So either walk away, or I will say something very, very cold and dismissive so that I can get out of the conversation. So I don't allow it. You shouldn't have conversation with them. They're not your person.
