Vanessa Van Edwards explains how to protect your voice during long speaking events. Instead of constantly speaking on the out-breath, pause for a reset sentence when your pitch rises. This conserves air, reduces vocal strain, and keeps your resonance strong.

How do you speak for 3 days straight and not lose your voice? How do you save your voice? How do you protect your voice while you're speaking and still being very resonant? Speaking very resonant is a lot of vibration, so it really works out your vocal cords. What I want you to think about is you're not constantly speaking on the out-breath. If you did that, it would also sound exhausting. So it's not a constant thing, it's actually just a reset. I actually want you to practice just speaking normally, but when you hear yourself going a little higher, that's when you do a little reset. And then I go back to normal, then if I go a little bit higher, then I have another reset sentence. And then I'm speaking normally. So that way it's not like you're constantly pushing air out because it sounds a little odd and it will exhaust you. Absolutely. You're using breath as the reset as opposed to the default. And that's a very good distinction. I might add a slide on like that should be your reset as opposed to a constant out-breath. You're basically hyperventilating then.
