Vanessa Van Edwards says a phone on the table is less intrusive than holding a notebook in front of the camera. As long as you don't block your own body, it's fine to have it visible, and you can mention it's for captions.
This is far more invasive than having a phone on the table. If I were to hold my notebook in front of me the entire time, like, this is far more blocking than even having my notes on the table. I would say do not worry about it. Maybe you could add a little bit more warmth or explain it. I need it for the closed captioning. Otherwise, you are good, right? As long as you're not body blocking, that's fine.
