A co-host feels insecure next to his confident partner. Vanessa Van Edwards says you don't need equal competence, just balance: prepare one statistic, one story, one example to show you know your stuff, then lean into your warmth.
I have a live series that I do with a co-host, and I've noticed when we're live together, he communicates that exudes high confidence. Now, I naturally tend to communicate in a way that's more warm.
I would agree.
And more casual. I find myself feeling insecure. I'm not communicating at the same level of competence that he communicates, which is just maybe the way he presents himself. How do I navigate my warmth-competence scale so that I can match him?
That is perfect co-host to have. So if you tend towards warmth and he tends towards competence, magic. Because otherwise you get two highly warm people and it sounds like a coffee date, or two highly competent people and it sounds like a science show. I'm so glad that he tends to go that way and you tend to go that way. As you're preparing to go live, if you know that you're going to talk about XYZ, have a stat, a story, and an example that you're like, those are solid, and that's your competence, but you're still able to be a little bit warm.
