Vanessa Van Edwards explains why unscripted stories beat memorized scripts. Heartfelt stories are easier to deliver, sound more credible, and flow with real emotion. The more you tell a story, the better you get at it, knowing where the laughs land and what to emphasize.

If you tell a story that comes from the heart, it's not something you have to memorize, it's not something that you have to script, you simply speak from the heart and I think you get a lot of credibility out of that. It flows a lot better together with the emotion as well.
It's interesting because I think that with stories, unlike scripts, the more you tell them, the better you get at them. Where with scripts, the more you do it, the less personality you have. Once you've told a story, you know your points, you know where the laugh is, you know what to emphasize. So also, I never thought about it that way until you just said that, but I think that's another great thing about stories.
