A short interview excerpt where Sonia recounts how she secured her first sales by proactively offering to find clients for her recruitment company. She describes cold-calling oil and gas firms, speaking with senior officials, booking meetings, and bringing in deals, framing her approach as authentic and straightforward (asking for 15 minutes to introduce herself).

Well, very quickly, I realized that, like, I have nothing to do. We have no business. We have no clients. And I wasn't really hearing much happening in the sales guy's office, so I knocked on the door and I said, like, hey, you know, I don't really have much going on. Like, I think we need more clients. Can I help try to find some clients? Of course. He was very happy. My colleague Phil, actually. And I. And then I just started picking up the phone. I just started cold calling, looking up phone numbers of oil and gas companies and just finding any company that needed to hire engineers.
And.
And before I knew it, I was on the phone with, you know, people, senior officials from big companies, big oil and gas companies. I was putting myself on planes, booking meetings, and just started bringing in deals. And that is how I fell into sales.
Just so incredible. You're obviously just one of your first jobs, right? And you're just randomly cold calling large oil and gas companies. What do you tell them?
So I think sales is just about being very authentic, and I really just opened the conversation. My name is Sonia. I work for this recruitment company. We specialize in helping companies hire engineers. It looks like you might be hiring engineers. I was wondering if I could have 15 minutes to come introduce myself.
