A product leader who scaled a company to a $100M exit shares how she made pricing decisions, including charging one client 8x more for a feature. She also discusses real estate investing and growing company revenue from $600,000 to $10M.
My guest today is a successful entrepreneur. He helped take a software business as head of product, eventually helping the company get to a hundred million dollar plus exit.
First year was just chaos. I'm always up for a challenge. Bit of a masochist. I like pain.
Do you have like a framework for thinking through product decisions?
You still need people to make decisions. You can't rely on an algorithm to make every decision for you. I called up one of our biggest clients. I ended up charging them about 8x for the exact same function. Came in the next morning. I just slammed down a contract. You're not raising their price to $6,700 a month. I said I already did. One of the partners looks at me and goes, how the did you do that?
Is a real estate market a good place today?
No one's selling you a gold mine. They're selling you something that is going to require a ton of work to put into it. And you can make it into a gold mine. But it's not going to be that from day one.
The US is completely different. You can buy property in most places, actually make money.
Yes. If the protections you put in place aren't actually protecting us in Canada, might as well make it a free for all because they do a really good job pretending that it is actually benefiting us.
You helped the company get from 600,000 to 10 million. What lessons can you share?
There's a few things that I would say, but the number one most important thing is.
