Why I chose Substack (and cut the rest) #substack #shorts

Someone cut from six platforms to two, ditching Medium, Instagram, Facebook, and X for algorithm changes and toxicity. They kept Substack to build community around The Lemon Tree Mindset, a project helping creative writers turn ideas into sustainable businesses.

So what happened with all of these? As I said at the beginning of the session, I was spread across 6 platforms or so. I decided to remove the things that were not aligned with these 3 questions. So let me go one by one. Medium, I don't know if you were there before, but it was really not helping me with the impact because they changed the algorithm overnight. They changed the distribution model. And so even though I had 6,000 followers, I couldn't really do much with them. So, I realized that it wasn't a platform that was really serving me. It was not on my terms either. I was just a digital tenant there, and that's why I wanted to build a community. So, I said goodbye to Medium. It's still there, but it's pretty much a ghost. So, that was that one. Then, I was on Instagram and Facebook, but the style there was not really me. It felt much more superficial to me. It felt much more performative, not really aligned with my values. And so I decided that I was going to keep it for my daughters and my family and my dog, which is what I do. So I'm still active there, but more as a chief executive mom. So I decided that's not really where I wanted to focus. And then X, because it was just so toxic, I decided that I didn't need that level of toxicity in my life. The world is already pretty messed up as it is, so you don't need X in your life. So X became my ex. And so with these, what was left then? 2 platforms. One is obviously Substack. I absolutely love Substack. I think it's an incredible platform to build a community. And today it ticks all my boxes. My ideal client is here. What do I do, by the way, at The Lemon Tree Mindset on Substack? So my goal is really to help people turn their creativity into their lifestyle. Many people have great ideas. They're writers, they're super creative, but they struggle to monetize their creativity. And so I try to bring the strategy. I try to bring the business input so that we can turn an idea into a sustainable business. And therefore my ideal client is definitely here.
