In this short video, Virginie Glaenzer, a fractional Chief Marketing Officer based in Washington, D.C., walks viewers through a typical workday. She begins by scanning Slack, email, and other communications to gauge client team status and identify bottlenecks. Once a co‑created strategy is approved, her work centers on two pillars: generating creative marketing ideas (e.g., email drips, landing pages) and building processes while selecting the right tools—often leveraging AI and project‑management platforms—to keep teams focused and productive. Glaenzer typically dedicates about two days per week to each client, a relationship that can span nine months or longer, and she emphasizes her deep integration with client teams, treating herself as part of the organization. The segment concludes by highlighting the dynamic, challenging, yet rewarding nature of fractional executive work.
Welcome to One Day in the Life of a Fractional Executive.
Today we'll hear from Virginie Glaenzer, a fractional marketing officer who lives in Washington, D.C. Hi, my name is Virginie and I'm a fractional CMO. So what is a typical day in the life of a fractional executive, well, my day usually starts with reading Slack communications and all the various messages that I get from my client's team. To me, collaboration is key, especially when I work with remote organizations. There could be Slack messages, emails, text messages even, that will allow me to get really a feel for what's happening. And that way I can understand where there are blockages so I can start to work on various projects and prepare discussion for the week. Now, as a fractional executive, once the strategy has been co-created, approved, and even aligned with all the stakeholders in the company, often my work resolves around two main issues or elements. The first one is the generation of ideas. I work closely with the team to brainstorm on creative campaigns that will resonate with our target audience. And that could be just reviewing an email drip campaign to building a new landing page for a new feature that we're launching. As a fractional executive, I really find that because I have more distance and a fresh perspective, I can better guide my team in building a bridge to connect the product or service to its audience in a very deep and meaningful way. And then the second element in my work is to create processes and choose tools. You know, today we are bombarded by way too many distractions, so I'm really here to help the team do the work and actually accomplish what they set up to do. So sometimes it's about choosing the right tool. You know, AI can save tremendous time, and sometimes it's about project management. So reviewing updates, discussing progress results, but also making adjustments so we meet our objectives. I think as a fractional CMO, in my role, I usually, you know, dedicate on average about 2 days per week for each of my clients, and that can last up to 9 months or sometimes more. And because I'm accountable for both both the marketing outcomes, but also for the performance of the team that I integrate. I share a very strong bond with my client's team, and I even consider myself one of their own. So thank you for joining me on this journey today. This is just an example of what some of my days look like.
And there you have it, a day in the life of a fractional CMO Our work is dynamic, filled with challenges, but ultimately rewarding when we see our strategies come to life and drive success for our clients. Stay tuned for more insights and experiences from the world of fractional.
