A vegan community member argues that a true vegan economy needs currency that only flows between vegans and supports vegan products. Conventional money and existing blockchains can't enforce this. Holochain's flexible architecture could enable a currency system that restricts transactions to vegan-to-vegan exchanges.

I also see, and I will speak more personally, you know, I belong to the vegan community and I truly believe in the values of veganism, which most people confuse with the way you eat. Veganism means the end of speciesism. That means you know that you don't need to kill and enslave and torture animals to exist, for eating, for, you know, your clothes, for everything, for medicines and everything. So veganism means stepping out of speciesism. And my question, like the 200 or 300 million people in the world having chosen a vegan lifestyle, we ask ourselves, hey, how can we build a vegan economy? And a vegan economy means that whatever currencies we'll use, it has to go from a vegan hand to another vegan hand, and it has to buy and sell and produce vegan products and services. So money can't do that, because money, you know, I can buy a local vegan product here, but the next hand it can go to the local hunter or the butcher, or someone who really doesn't care about those things. So we need to put the social contract into the design of the game. And I will never do that, I can't do that with conventional money, I can't even do that with the current blockchain technology. We need something that can play a much more sophisticated game so that it knows from which hand to which hand it can go. And so we can design that with Holochain. I have extremely high expectations in designing a vegan economy with others so that we know that enhancing that economy will support the world that we want, with, you know, a compassionate world, and that also restores ecosystems and all these things. Mm-hmm.
