The speaker (Vishen Lakhiani) argues that calorie-counting and diets that tell you to eat less fail because the body responds to perceived calorie shortages by conserving energy and holding onto weight. He claims the 'calories in, calories out' model is incorrect and that eating satiating, nutritionally rich foods reduces hunger and cravings, allowing the body to 'right size' naturally.

Hunger is a problem. Cravings are problems. Have you ever felt, like, irrationally hungry? Have you ever felt a craving so strong that it made you want to eat something that you really wish you wouldn't eat? These types of hunger, these types of cravings are dangerous. And you know what's really crazy? Most diet programs tell you, eat less, and then you feel even more of this hunger and even more craving. Any diet that asks you to eat less is going to fail. The calories in, calories out myth is absolutely wrong, and it's caused failure for decades. And I want to explain why. When your body feels like there's a calorie shortage, when, when your body feels like there's not enough food, it becomes very conservationalist. It says, I gotta hold on to what I've got. And so somebody who wants to release weight, who stops eating, is going to cause the body to hold onto their weight. When you find yourself on a program that guides you through eating healthy, satiating, nutritionally full things, a crazy thing happens. You feel hunger less often, your cravings go away, and your body, right sizes in the most magical way.
