Short YouTube transcript (promo) in which Jim Kwik and another speaker argue that reading faster improves comprehension and retention because increased speed increases focus and reduces mind-wandering. They compare slow reading to wobbling on a bicycle and faster reading to driving/racing for greater attention, then invite viewers to a Mindvalley masterclass to learn speed-reading techniques.

If you've ever read a page in a book, got to the end and just forgot what you just read, your mind wanders, get easily distracted. Here's why. When you read something, you feed this incredible supercomputer of a brain one word.
At a time, metaphorically. You're starving your mind.
And if you don't give your brain the stimulus it needs, it'll seek entertainment elsewhere and in the form of distraction.
In the form of mind wandering.
The biggest myth and lie about speed.
Reading, and I think it's spread around by slow readers, is that if you read faster, your comprehension would what you feel like it would go down. But it's not true. The truth is, the faster readers tend to have better comprehension because they have better focus. Reading slow is kind of like riding a bicycle. Slow, you wobble and then you fall. But here's the secret. If you want better comprehension while you read, read faster. Because it's like driving a car.
If you're driving a car, going slow through traffic, you're not really focused on driving. You're doing five different things. You're drinking your coffee. You're texting, even though you know you shouldn't. You're putting on makeup. I saw someone the other day shaving. You can do five different things. But if you're racing cars and you're taking hairpin turns as fast as you go, do you have more or less focus?
The answer is obvious.
You're focused on what?
On the act of driving and on what's in front of you. That's exactly what it's like for reading.
When you're reading faster, you focus on the act of reading and what's in front of you.
If you want to maximize not only your speed and have greater comprehension while you read, I want to invite you to a very special masterclass put on by mindvalley where I'm going to share with you and crack the copy code of the secret of how to read faster and not just speed. Smart reading. How to read with better focus, understanding and retention. Invite you in this masterclass.
